My cat has a sore, swollen ear. What should I do for her now?

Oreo could have a bite wound and associated abscesses causing the swelling, or have ear mite infestations and be working on aural hematomas. Aural hematomas are fluid pockets in between the ear cartilages and are very painful. When cats have ear issues they often scratch and shake their heads because it makes them itchy and painful. Oreo needs to see a vet to get her on the proper medications to make her feel better. She may need to be on a steroid like prednisolone, antibiotics, and anti-parasitic medication for ear mites, if that is going on.

Poor Beba! It could be she injured her ear, or she could be suffering from an ear infection causing her to scratch her ear a lot leading to the swelling. I would recommend a veterinary exam for Luna if you suspect something is wrong with her ear. Cats can develop your infections from yeast or bacteria, can have ear mites, can develop cancer of the ear or grow benign polyps within the ear that may pre-dispose to infection as well. Without an exam there's no way to know what may be wrong with her ear or how to treat it. Ear mites, yeast, bacteria can only be diagnosed via cytology by looking at discharge from the ear under a microscope. Hello, sorry to hear about Black. It looks like he has a hematoma or a blood filled ear pinnae. This is typically caused due to scratching or trauma. Things that may cause Blacki to itch would be an ear infection, mites, or allergies. You should have Blacki evaluated by a veterinarian to rule out an underlying cause for this. In terms of the swollen ear it self, there are several ways to address this such as draining and bandaging vs surgery to suture the ear flat. The latter is generally reserved for last resort after draining has failed. This is not an emergency, but Blacki should be evaluated soon to address his ear. Hope this helps and best of luck.

That looks like it may be a hematoma or a wound that has become infected (very common in outdoor cats). Unfortunately, it needs to be seen by a vet in person so it can be clipped away and the area cleaned/antibiotics given as needed. If you are unable to catch him and bring him in yourself, you may see if your local humane society or animal control can come out to humanely trap him so he can be brought in fore care.
