My 5-month-old cat is sneezing with eye discharge. What should I do?

Hunter may have a little virus. This can be common in young cats. I would make sure he is continually eating and drinking. If the sneezing or clear discharge gets worse then I would recommend bringing Hunter to the veterinarian so they can provide medication to help him feel better. Sneezing and clear eye discharge can indicate the beginnings of something, or may be allergy related. Keeping the eyes and nose clear with a clean washcloth may help. If the discharge changes to yellow or green, Pinta becomes congested, or she becomes feverish, lethargic, or stops eating, those are all signs of something more serious such as an upper respiratory infection that requires veterinary care.

As long as she is otherwise normal, you don't have to rush her into a vet right away. Now if she starts having excessive nasal discharge, eye discharge, coughing, becomes lethargic, and/or has a decrease or loss of appetite, then I would take her into the vet sooner. Best of luck.

She might have an upper respiratory infection causing the sneezing and discharge. Since she is eating and playing normal, you can monitor her and see if the problem resolves. If she stops eating, becomes lethargic, has a fever, and/or the discharge increases or becomes discolored then she needs to be examined by a vet for treatment.

This is probably an upper respiratory infection. it's very common in young cats and is very contagious to other cats as well. It is treated with antibiotic eye drops/ointment and oral antibiotics for about 2 weeks. if left untreated many cats will end up blind or even die from the disease. I advise going to your vet asap to start the treatment right away.

This may be from an allergy or a sinus or upper respiratory infection. It is common in cats and quickly can progress to a decreased appetite and lethargy. Most respiratory infections in cats are from viral infections that can be contagious to other cats. If he is eating still, then you can make an appointment with your vet and do no need to get him treated as an emergency

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is likely due to an upper respiratory infection though something else like bilateral corneal ulcers or even dry eye are possible. This is usually treated with antibiotic eye drops and oral antibiotics and cats usually respond well to therapy. I recommend that you have Deimos evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If they agree that based on an examination, that seems to be the issue, they will likely prescribe medications to make him feel better. In the meantime, you may try to decrease his activity and rest him up which may help. Good luck and best wishes!
