My cat has small dots on his belly and is losing hair. What should I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered

Hi,I have noticed these little dots - first around my cats(male 4 years) nipples, then it spread also further onto his belly. It doesn't seem to bother him. He does not scratch it. Eats, plays and acts normally. However it seems he has been losing hair around the abdomen area. Can you please let me know what the problem is? Thank you so much!

Those are comodones, like plugged follicles/pores. It could be due to any number of underlying conditions: ringworm, skin mites (or other skin parasites) or even allergies.

My recommendation would be to change the diet. Whatever you are feeding may be causing this issue. A hypoallergenic diet may be a good choice.

I would also recommend you use this mousse. It is nice because it works like a shampoo but you don't actually have to bathe your cat. It is leave on treatment. Use as directed on the label. I would use it twice a week for the first couple weeks. If no improvement you should probably take him for a vet visit.

I hope this helps. Best wishes.
