Why is my cat sleeping all day, not eating, and losing teeth?

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 6 lbs

My cat is sleeping all day and not eating. He had two teeth fell off and one was bleeding and swollen. Took him to the vet and the blood work for pancreatic disease was negative. Also feline leukemia and heart warms also were negative. What is wrong with him the cet told me that she does not know the problem and she told me to wait

Poor Leo! It is likely he has serious periodontal disease if he lost teeth. Dental disease can affect appetite because it simply hurts when he eats. There could also be infection and inflammation compounding the problem. Have Leo rechecked by your vet (or a different vet) and ask him/her to do an oral exam. Leo may need a dental cleaning and could have more teeth extracted if necessary. This will require general anesthesia and dental xrays. Discuss treatment options and the procedure with the veterinarian.,

Hello, I'm glad you're keeping an eye on Leo's eating and weight. It is never normal for a cat to eat notably less to the point of weight loss. I will often see outdoor cats who eat less cat food in the summer months because they are hunting to supplement their diet - but in those cases, the cats are keeping a steady weight. If Leo is losing weight and eating less, he should be seen by a vet. Your vet will likely want to check a fecal sample to look for intestinal parasites, and may recommend bloodwork and/or x-rays for more information. Hope this helps!

Yes, losing teeth can definitely make Tippy less playful. This could be painful to him, and he may be suffering from dental disease causing him to lose his teeth. It's not normal for a 5 year old cat to lose teeth, so I would have Tippy seen by a vet first thing in the morning. Without examining your cat or at least seeing some photos it is very difficult for me to comment. The best I can tell you is that he needs to see a vet so he can be examined in person. He may have a seriously infected tooth or even a tumor in his mouth cavity. Both things can cause the sign you describe. He cannot be left in this condition without eating and losing weight. It sounds like he is in pain so he needs to see a vet right away. I would not wait to get him examined. This is an emergency in my opinion.

Oh my. These are very concerning symptoms I'm afraid. I would highly recommend taking Leo to your local vet right away. I am worried that Leo may have a toxin ingestion, foreign body obstruction, or even kidney disease is a possible cause here. Until you can get him seen you can try offering some canned tuna and white rice to see if you can entice him to eat a bit of food. I hope that your furry friend Leo feels better soon! Why does my cat have a painful jawline lump and droopy mouth?

I hate to hear that Leo is uncomfortable. I would think this is likely an infection, either of the skin or the tooth itself. Less likely would be a cancer. I would recommend to take him in to see the veterinarian who may be able to tell the difference based on a physical exam and can provide appropriate medication and pain relief.
