Does my cat know when I'm feeling down and try to comfort me?

Dogs are very sensitive to their owners moods, and she's clearly picking up that when you are upset, you need love and attention to feel better. That is why she wants you to pick her up, so she can show you that she loves you. It is a normal thing, dogs can be very attuned to their owners. I had a dog who has since passed away, but when I went through a rough time in my life about five years back, she never left my side. I spent many hours with her head in my lap as she comforted me. Cats are very sensitive and intelligent animals. Zeypher is likely very attached to you and senses when you are anxious or going to have an epileptic episode. You don't say whether this is an issue for you? There is very little you could do to discourage the behaviour but if it does cause you further anxiety you could move into a different room whilst the episode is occuring. If it doesnt bother you and you were just wondering why it occurs, I would simply continue as you are and enjoy your close bond with Zeypher. She is likely trying to be there for you and animals can be very comforting for people with anxiety isdues.

Yes, indeed, cats can suffer from anxiety and depression. They can get very attached to their human or another pet in the household, and, for example, if their person leaves or if the cat loses a fellow pet in the household, it is not uncommon for the kitty to be depressed.

There are calming supplements and diets which can be very helpful, as well as pheromone and comfort zone diffusers which can help cats adapt to such situations. A full health check and possibly blood panel should be considered to rule out medical causes especially if there is any weight loss or altered thirst
