Why does my cat scratch and meow at my door at night? Is it anxiety?

It sounds like you have an active young kitty cat! Well, unfortunately, you are doing many of things I would suggest for you to do already. However, we have not yet exhausted all of our options. It sounds like Ginger is experiencing some level of distress, whether or not its due to separation or a need for attention is very hard to say. I would consider adding some Feliway Diffusers into the home. They can be found on Amazon or at a local pet store. They send out pheromones into the environment that aim to calm the cat. They also make direct sprayers that you can put onto objects or even directly onto the kitty himself. If this sort of thing works, it usually doesn't happen overnight. Another option, which may not be possible and might sound insane, would be getting a second kitty. Ginger just may need a friend to keep her company when you aren't around. There are also pharmaceutical interventions that can be given if what Ginger is experiencing is truly anxiety. A behavioral work up by a trainer or vet at your home would be very helpful in this case just to get a full idea of the entire situation. I hope one of these tips can give you some peace at night.

It's possible Spirit may feel a bit anxious when you're gone. Cats can become clingy and exhibit the behaviors listed when they are feeling anxious. A good first step is always to schedule a vet checkup and rule out any possibility of illness that may be causing these behaviors as well. That said, if Spirit checks out healthy, there are a few things you can do to help. When you leave the house, playing a soothing talk show on TV or on the radio can help, as well as placing pheromone diffusers/calming collars on spirit to help her relax. You can also get her more used to you leaving by only leaving for a few minutes, then coming back. Make sure to not make a big deal out of the event when leaving, so she doesn't anticipate it and start to become anxious. A good play session to get her tired out before you leave can also help reduce anxiety as she'll likely just want to sleep while you're away. If the issue continues, or worsens, talking with a veterinary behaviorist may help as they can create a more tailored plan and see what's going on in-person.

This can be normal cat behavior. Sometimes they are needy and asking for something such as food or attention, sometimes they are bored. Be sure to try to encorporate lots of environmental enrichment for Roxy around your home—scratching posts, toys, treat puzzle toys, elevated car walkways on the wall, elevated perches or window perches, bird feeders on windows next to perches etc. That may help minimize this behavior. If the behavior is related to anxiety, which is possible, a product such as Feliway or Comfort Zone may be helpful. You can use catnip on scratching posts and toys to stimulate her to play with them. I would recommend a product called Feliway which may help with episodes of distress or separation anxiety and is not a medication per se but it helps them feel more at ease. Best of luck!

I am sorry to hear about your kitty! I wonder if something is making him anxious in the evening, such as some noises outside, perhaps a cat in the neighborhood roaming outside, a person in the household who is only around in the evening, etc. I would consider getting a Feliway diffuser (a plug-in product that produces pheremones that calm cats) and starting a calming supplement such as Zylkene or Composure. These products can all be purchased online or in some vet clinics. If you are seeing no improvement with these products I would recommend a trip to his vet to ensure there are no medical issues.
