My cat has runny nose, cough, congestion, bloody mucus. Is he okay?

This is usually treated with antibiotic eye drops and oral antibiotics and cats usually respond well to therapy. I recommend that you have Deimos evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If they agree that based on an examination, that seems to be the issue, they will likely prescribe medications to make him feel better. Is it a lot of blood or just a drop? if it is a lot of blood I recommend emergency. If it is a drop and only happened once and he is acting ok then you can wait. There are veterinarians typically open on Saturday that are not emergency hospitals. I would talk with your veterinarian about a possible polyp if he consistently is having respiratory issues. It could be that Brodie is suffering from a chronic respiratory virus such as feline herpes. There are a few things you can try at home. First, you can try starting him on an L-lysine supplement - this is an amino acid that has been shown to help the immune system fight off respiratory infections more effectively. Enisyl and Viralys are both good brands, and can be purchased over the counter without a prescription - just follow the dosing instructions on the label based on your cat's weight. If he's congested, you can also try using a humidifier or bringing him into the bathroom with the door closed while you take a hot shower - the steam and humidity help to break up congestion and temporarily relieve symptoms associated with respiratory infections. Poor Gus! He sure looks cute curled up with his buddy! I would recommend taking him in to get a exam by a veterinarian. They will check to make sure that his eyes are ok- some cats get ulcers with an upper respiratory infection. They will check for a secondary bacterial infection that would need antibiotics. Sometimes- they will prescribe a nebulization solution which is to be used in a nebulizer to help open up his airways. It is important to make sure that he keeps eating. If Mimi is still fighting a respiratory infection, the blood coming from the nose could be due to what we call rhinitis (inflammation of the sinuses / mucous membranes of the nose). This is common in unresolved upper respiratory infections. If you are only seeing a small amount and the blood is not profuse, you should be ok to wait until this week to have Mimi seen. If she is showing more blood and the amount if profuse, she needs to be seen immediately by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made.
