My cat might have ringworm. Can I use Griseofulvin or see a vet?

Can be but may not be. Your vet can use a woods lamp to see if it glows green. If it does then it is ringworm. If it does not then it still can be ringworm but may not be. There is a fungal test to confirm if it is or not. Does anyone in your home have lesions? I would also recommend skin scraping the area looking for mites if it is just hairloss and not scabbing also. Mia needs to have a vet physically examine this area and the rest of her to see exactly what is going on. Ringworm can be treated topically if just one location with an anti-fungal cream. I also recommend ecollars after applying the cream so they do not lick the areas. If it is more than one location then I recommend oral anti-fungal medications. I would recommend treating both cats because up to 20% of ringworm affected cats can be asymptomatic carriers, meaning that you will not see any symptoms but they are still carrying the ringworm and can spread it. It will not hurt to treat the other cat. If the ringworm is spreading and not resolving, a different treatment needs to be considered and I would discuss this further with the prescribing veterinarian. Griseofulvin and topical treatments like ketoconazole can be used to treat ringworm but sometimes this depends on the ringworm species for which medication is most effective. I hope this helps! Antifungal medication (most likely a topical ointment based on itraconazole or similar) is required. Your vet can prescribe that when diagnosis has been correctly established by some skin testing for ringworm. Miconazole and clotrimazole are the most common topical anti-fungal medications that we use for ringworm, but you will want to consult with your veterinarian before starting any treatment for ringworm to make sure that Pita Boo is confirmed to have ringworm, to make sure that he doesn't need oral medication as well and to make sure that the topical product is safe for cats. Unfortunately no, there are no OTC medications you can use to treat Magick's ringworm. She needs an oral anti fungal medication because Microsporum canis (fungal organism causing ringworm) is spread diffusely throughout a cat's entire hair coat, and the whole body needs to be treated. The oral anti fungal medications are prescription only, so you have to make an appointment with the vet. It certainly is possible that Stiletto has ringworm. I would take her into the vet, who can use a Wood's lamp and fungal culture to diagnose if she does have ringworm. Should she have it, the vet can prescribe an antifungal treatment for it. Your other cat will have to be treated for it, as it's highly contagious, and keep an eye on yourself to make sure you don't have ringworm lesions as well because it's contagious to humans. That could be a ringworm patch on Tinsel. Unfortunately without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain. Don't touch it, as ringworm is highly contagious to humans as well. Have her seen by a vet on Monday who can confirm if she has ringworm and can prescribe an oral anti-fungal medication.
