My cat's diarrhea is reddish and looks like tomato sauce. What to do?

Pink diarrhea can be caused by eating foods with a lot of red dye, but you would usually see the stools be a rust color, not pink. I would be more concerned that there is blood in the stool causing the off color. Bloody diarrhea (and chronic vomiting and diarrhea) in a cat can be caused by food intolerance or allergies, intestinal parasites, bacterial or viral gastroenteritis (such as panleukopenia virus), GI blockage, inflammatory bowel disease, among others. I would recommend that you have another visit with the vet about the ongoing issues and the change in color of the diarrhea to see what is the next diagnostic step.

I see a little bit of red but not a big amount. I’d keep an eye on her for now. If you keep seeing red in her poop or it gets worse, then take her back into the vet ASAP. Small specks of red blood during a bout of diarrhea is not unusual as the delicate lining of the back passage can become damaged from straining. As long as he is bright and alert, eating and drinking it would be ok to leave him but if any lethargy, weakness or vomiting occurs he should be seen urgently by your vet. Be sure he is up to date with deworming medication as intestinal worms are a common cause of diarrhea in young kittens

With so many symptoms I recommend a vet check as soon as possible - it sounds like he has developed a severe diarrhea/colitis and fecal incontinence and he requires urgent treatment. In the meantime offer a bland diet of boiled chicken or fish and a probiotic supplement such as fortiflora

I would monitor Button for now, and keep an eye on her feces. If you see blood again, then yes I would take her into a vet. Her GI tract could have become irritated with the diarrhea, causing the blood in the feces. Should it be a one off occurrence, and she is eating normally with no more diarrhea, she does not require a vet visit.

I wouldn't really be worried about this at this stage. The purple color may be a bit of digested blood but it could also be due to some colon irritation. I suggest you continue what you are doing and if it persists then you should call your vet to ask them about it. They have more information about her health than we do. My only other suggestion is to put her on a probiotic: like Advita or Fortiflora. This should help with the diarrhea. Casper needs to be examined by the veterinarian. Bloody stool can be present for many reasons including parasites, bacterial over growth, improper diet, viral infection or poisoning. Bring in a fresh sample of the feces for parasite testing. The veterinarian may recommend an antibiotic, probiotic and a bland diet. You need to start ruling out the potential causes so that Casper gets the correct treatment. I hope this helps.
