My cat has a red bump and hair loss. Could it be fleas or worms?

From the photos, those look more like teats. Check the bumps to see if they are in pairs. Cats typically have 8-10 sets of teats (even the males). Use your flea comb to check for fleas. Fleas like to hang out the lower back and between the hind legs. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

It is difficult to diagnose without seeing the bump but it could be an infection, cyst, mass, or an injury. The best thing would be to have your vet take a look at it to determine the exact cause and best way to treat. He may need an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, or other medications to treat. Your vet can do a needle aspirate, if necessary, to help diagnose the cause of the bump.

I would definitely take him to the vet to have this checked. From what you say I wonder if this is a tissue reaction to a little piece of the bug left behind. It looks more like reaction and infection than a tumour, but that is always a possibility. I wouldn't let that put you off, head to the vet and see what they think.

Cheyletiella or Notoedres mites could cause symptoms in people and cats but I wouldn't expect to see small red bumps. Sarcoptes causes thick crusts on the face and ears along with hair loss, and cheyletiella is often called walking dandruff because it causes skin flakes that often move along with the mites. If your cat is not on a flea preventative it still may be worth trying one - cats can be good at grooming adult fleas away before you can see them. Otherwise I'd guess that her bumps and your bumps might not be related - allergies can commonly cause small red bumps in cats. There are several medications that can be used for mites but I'm not 100% sure what is available over the counter in Australia. Topical products with imidacloprid and moxidectin should be effective against both mites and fleas. Fipronil can be effective against cheyletiella and fleas. I would recommend checking in with your vet before giving any medication for mites.

It is possible this may be related to inflammation such as from a flea allergy so i recommend treating with a flea medication such as comfortis as soon as possible. Prescription antiinflammatory medications from your vet may also be required

Pets can get many types of lumps and bumps. Most of these tumors will be benign but some will be malignant and you can't tell by looks. If the bump is still there in 2 weeks, I recommend to have it checked out to be safe. The doctor may recommend to aspirate the mass to examine the cells under a microscope. That is one of the best ways to know what it is and if further action is needed. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

This is most of the time differentiated with a test called a fine needle aspirate which is easy, cheap and pain-free. Sometimes, a biopsy is required for a diagnosis. Have Bumble bee evaluated by your veterinarian to have this test performed to try to sort out what the diagnosis is so that the best course of action can be determined. They could evaluate his nails as well which he could potentially have an infection going on. Keeping my fingers crossed that it is something benign!
