Why does my cat purr while playing? How to stop her from clawing legs?

Every time he does this , say no! and gently remove him from your leg. He is playing and wants attention. You can also carry a toy and when it looks like he wants to climb your leg, you can throw the toy to divert his attention. You should also clip his toe nails ( only the tips) so he has no traction, Make sure that when you clip his nails, that you do not cut into the quick (the pink part of the nail)

It sounds like Boo is trying to play, but doesn't know what she is doing is unacceptable. You are doing the right thing by trying to play with her often, and I recommend playing with her for at least 10 minutes at a time twice a day. You can provide her with more environmental stimulation. Give her new things to explore, like a cardboard box or puzzle feeders. Give Boo a time out when she plays too roughly. Get up and walk out of the room when she starts jumping on people's legs, even going into another room and shutting her out. Don't remove her, as she will interpret your touch as something positive. Ignoring her and going out the room will show her that her play is negative and there are consequences for that behavior. Finally, reward her for good behavior. Praise her and give her treats when she plays appropriately, reinforcing the positive behavior.

She is playing. Usually kittens play hunt like that with their siblings or other cats, but since there are no other cats she picks the next best moving thing....you.. Get a fishing toy (stick with a string and a feather on it) or tie a crumpled up piece of paper on a string and play with her. Set aside at least 30 minutes/day for wild playing with your kitty. Thanks for using PetCoach. This is a normal play behavior. (So is reaching out to claw your pants as you walk by or trying to catch your hands with her claws while you pet her.) There are two ways I handle this. One is to stop petting and leave so that she knows play time is over. Honestly it hasn’t really worked yet (she still does it sometimes) and my cat is now 18 mos. What seems to work better is to get up and grab her favorite toy and start playing with that. That is something she CAN bite and claw at and get those natural play behaviors out- without chomping my hands. It can be difficult to stop this behavior! Make sure you never use your hands during play - toys only. If she begins to play using her claws or biting you should try offering an appropriate toy to play with. If she still tries to bite at you play time should stop, and you may even need to remove your attention or confine her somewhere alone until she’s able to calm down. Be persistent and with time she should realize that this is not an appropriate way to play.

Sometimes this behavior can be related to boredom, anxiety or a desire to play roughly. There are a few things you can do which may help. Try enriching her environment. If only Kitty could talk! It’s impossible to know exactly why the cat would do that. Some cats will stand on their hind legs and try to use our legs almost like a scratching post and it’s not aggressive in all circumstances. Cats have secnt glands in the paws and scratching is a way to scent mark and claim an object. Always use your best judgment when interacting with animals.
