My cat bites during play. How to stop aggression? Do time outs work?

It's hard to know why pets develop certain behaviors. It's possible he thinks this is some sort of game. Try to identify any type of a pattern so you can predict what is going to do. You may certainly try distracting him as soon as you notice the rough behavior. Try to direct him to play in a different fashion. It's possible he is bored and so is inventing his own games. Try meeting his instinctual needs and providing some new stimulation. Try feeding him out of a food puzzle. Hide food for him to find. Provide a stand or resting place by a window so he can look outside. You may also try clicker training him for positive behavior. The veterinarian can also prescribe medications which can help with bad behaviors. He should also be neutered because the testosterone can make pets more aggressive. It can be difficult to stop this behavior! Make sure you never use your hands during play - toys only. If she begins to play using her claws or biting you should try offering an appropriate toy to play with. If she still tries to bite at you play time should stop, and you may even need to remove your attention or confine her somewhere alone until she’s able to calm down. Be persistent and with time she should realize that this is not an appropriate way to play.

Always play with a toy, never with your hand. When he starts to get too wound up then I would put him in a dark room with no interaction for 30 minutes or so until he calms down. yes, this is him playing however it is still unwanted behavior because he teaches him he is in charge and is allowed to bite. When this happens, tell him no, and place him down away from you. Give a few minutes to realize you will not show any attention then you can continue loving him or playing with after that until he learns acceptable behavior.

A good first step is to just stop playtime when Chandler starts to get too rough. If the fun stops the moment he gets too agitated and bites, he'll quickly learn that it's not fun to keep doing so. Once he has calmed down, you can then try another play session, again stopping if he gets too excited or agitated. Another solution is to play with a toy such as a feather on a string, where he can pounce and bite without coming close to your arms or hands. Offering a toy that he can chew on or bat with his paws and bite can also keep his mouth occupied instead of letting him munch on you.
