Why is my cat peeing on the floor after surgery and anesthesia?

It depends on when your guy had surgery and if you mean urine/feces or both. If recent it could be anesthesia related as this can slow the gi tract down and/or he may be a little tired from the procedure/sedation. It could also be pain related. Do you notice anything abnormal about the neuter site (redness, swelling, discharge)? If he is eating and drinking normally then he will re establish normality soon. If he is not feeling well or you are worried about the surgery site it would be best to have him checked by your vet. While I am unclear what you are specifically referring to in terms of his behavior, it is fairly common for cats and dogs to feel differently and show signs such as lethargy and sedation for 24-36 hours following anesthesia. Hello. I cannot imagine what anesthesia was used on poor Daaboul that after 4 days he is still having problems. You need to return to your veterinarian to see about what was done to affect your kitty so badly, & they should immediately take steps to return him back to health. It is very common for elderly cats to take longer to recover form the medications used during anaesthesia. Their liver and kidney function is not as good a cat younger then 7. However, if it has been longer then a week and you are still concerned I would advise mentioning this to the veterinarian who had performed the procedure during Kuzia's postoperative recheck.

It sounds like he is still experiencing some pain. Talk to the vet who did the neuter about prescribing an anti-inflammatory/pain medication to help relieve the pain and make him more comfortable. Do not give any human pain medications as they can be toxic to cats.

Hello, thank you for your question about Jersey. I would not be too concerned about this right now. I suspect that Jersey was fasted prior to this procedure meaning that her GI tract is already a bit behind. In addition to that general anesthesia can slow the contractions of the GI tract temporarily. Now that Jersey is home and feeling better I suspect these things will normalize in the next 24 hours or so. However, if you notice Jersey straining to urinate or defecate or she seems lethargic or not like herself I would recommend having her rechecked by your veterinarian. Sometimes it can take some time for cats to recover from anesthesia and administration of these medications together so that could be a reason why it has been taking him longer than expected to recover. If he is eating and otherwise doing well, it may be ok to monitor him for a bit longer.
