My cat aggressively paws the floor after chasing the new kitten. Why?

This may be normal energetic kitten and puppy behavior that may subside with time, however, if this behavior is something you do not want, then perhaps a training technique can help. You may want to try petting them only once they are quiet and calm to reinforce good behavior. You can also try leaving the room when they do this and only coming back in when they have settled down. There are many other techniques you can use as well that are helpful. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The opening or kneading of the claws when happy or being pet is normal in cats. It DOES hurt if their claws are on your leg. Keep the nails short. You probably are not going to be able to teach him not to do something that is instinctual. If he starts to bite you then stop petting him and watch for clues from him that he has had enough petting: ears turning back, turning to look at your hand, tail flicking and stop touching him before he goes to bite. Try not to yell no at him if that triggers biting. Kittens are full of energy and they grow out of it eventually. Provide lots of toys and play time. Soon enough he will be a sleepy adult cat and you'll miss the hyper kitten! Have a good day!

What you are describing may just be normal kitten behavior, but Luna no longer has the other kittens in her litter to play with. The key will likely be a large amount of stimulation that is varied. First, I would work on environmental enrichment for Luna. This website has a number of good ideas for that. https://indoorpet.osu.edu/cats One of my favorite things for cats is a no bowl feeding system like Doc & Phoebe ( https://docandphoebe.com/ ) that requires them to "hunt" for their food. You could also try a feeding ball. I also recommend using laser pointers and interactive cat toys like a Cat Dancer ( http://www.catdancer.com/ ) to get cats to play with you more appropriately. These toys keep her away from your hands while you are playing which is important. Kittens have a lot of energy and are meant to practice "hunting" multiple times a day, so she will need multiple sessions of stimulation daily to keep her satisfied. Good luck! Thanks for using PetCaoch! It’s not uncommon to hear about behavior like Alyssa. It can take a lot of time and patience for them to get along but here are some tips for decreasing stress for Alyssa in the short term. -Feliway- calming cat pheromone- comes in many forms from pet stores or online. 

 - Adding a litter box. Studies show that the ideal number of litter boxes for a home is #of cats +1 . This is regardless of how clean you keep his current litter box. 

- making sure she has plenty of “high space”. The safest (and therefore least anxiety-inducing) place for a cat is up. If you don’t already, get a cat tree or put up a shelf or two that she can go perch on. 
 Feeding them in separate rooms with two or three water bowls throughout the home is also a good idea as perceived competition for resources is a common problem in cats. Best of luck to you and your kitties!

She likely feels as though she is more dominant over him and treats him as such. Plus, from a distance, she likely sees how rambunctious he can be and it could make her nervous. Just continue to teach your son good manners around her (being gentle and not chasing her) and with time, she will likely come around.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Lucy. Cat behavior is very complex and trying to figure this out might be impossible. For some reason, Lucy has taken it upon herself to stalk and lash out at your sister. Unfortunately, without spending a lot more time and detail the exact triggers and their relationship in general, it would be extremely difficult to answer this completely in this forum. It could be the way they interact with each other, how your sister behaves around her, how Lucy behaves around your sister, Lucy's predatory instincts, etc. I would advise discussing this with your local veterinarian who can gather a detailed history, explore the relationship between Lucy and your sister, and possibly do an examination to make sure Lucy is in good health and not acting out due to some medical problem that isn't apparent yet. Seems like this is strictly behavioral but medical problems can definitely cause abnormal behaviors towards people and other pets. Either way, behavioral or medical, your vet could then discuss moving forward. This could involve consulting with a cat behaviorist, trying behavior modification, trying some behavioral drugs, etc. Good luck with this confusing and complex problem. I hope your sister and Lucy can work this out.
