This could be due to a hyperkeratosis of the pads.
Hyperkeratosis is a thickening of the skin which can occur in cats and dogs when too much keratin, or the fibrous proteins that comprise the outer layer of skin, is produced. This leads to excessive skin, which becomes hard, thickened, dried out, and callous-like. Usually is completely benign and no further action is needed.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. To answer your question, yes, this is paw pad hyperkeratosis. I've had success using a balm called BioBalm by Dermoscent, which helps reduce this. In these cases, I also trimmed the overgrown pad with scissors or a dremel file. I would discuss this with a veterinarian there so that you can have this addressed appropriately. I hope this helps! This could be hyperkeratosis / calus formation, which is benign but can be uncomfortable for some animals. These are skin hyperkeratosis (thickening of the stratum corneum of the epidermis/most superficial skin layer). A check up and possibly a sample of it can be taken to confirm diagnosis. They can be mildly painful and possibly grow even more than now. Surgical excision is usually resolutive but not strictly necessary. My cat has a paw pad callous, but it doesn't bother her. Is it normal?

I don't see any obvious abnormalities in the picture, but I would have to examine it in-person to appreciate the problem you are concerned about. Callouses will normally form on the pad, so this may be a normal change. The pad can also have changes with injuries or a condition called pododermatitis. Is dark hyperkeratosis on dog's pink paw pads normal or a callus?

Are dark red splotches on my cat's paw pads normal or a problem?

Based on your photos, this looks like pigmented areas of the paw pad, which can be normal in some cats. If the areas are not raised or painful then this is likely the case. If, however, the colored areas are a different texture/raised or seem painful/sensitive then a veterinary exam is recommended.

Why are my dog's dewclaw pads crusty? Could it be hyperkeratosis?

You may just be seeing hyperkeratosis of the pads which is very common in a lot of dogs. It's essentially just an overgrowth of the skin in this area and commonly occurs to the nasal planum and paw pads, especially as dogs age. My dog has a hard growth on paw pad. What is it and what to do?

This looks like hyperkeratinosis of the paw pad. It is basically a callous. There isn't much you can do about it. If you have it cut off, they usually grow back. I would try some pad balm to help keep it smoothe and to prevent it from cracking and causing any discomfort. Most dogs are never bothered by it. If it ever causes him to limp, start to crack, or is growing rapidly, I would have your vet take a look at it to ensure he doesn't need any additional therapy. I hope this helps!
