My doctor says I got pasteurella from my cat. Does he need treatment?

I would say that pasturella is not a common bacteria we find in cats. However it is always possible that dogs and cats carry pasturella in there normal mouth and saliva. If you have an open wound and are exposed to pasturella it maybe possible you can get the infection. I do not think the cats previous ear infection is a cause of the infection. Hope that helps

I'm sorry to hear about this. Toxoplasmosis is a parasite that is commonly acquired by cats, people and many other animals, but doesn't always cause disease. This means that any animal can be infected and shedding the infective stage, but doesn't necessarily have the disease. Unless Blink is having signs of illness, there is no need to treat the infection. However, it may be worthwhile to have a vet find out if she is in-fact the source of the infection. For your sake, it may be worthwhile to eliminate the infection in Blink, so she doesn't continually spread it. Keep in mind that cat's are not the only source of this disease. Many other animals can carry this parasite and it's often transmitted through undercooked meat. Campylobacter is a bacteria that can be transmitted from animals to people, but if the cat is not having diarrhea, then there is no need to treat him for it. If he is having diarrhea, then it would be best to have your vet evaluate him sometime soon. I hope that helps and all is well with Ben.

A cat's mouth is usually full of bacteria that can result in severe infections and cellulitis in humans that get bit. You should check with a local physician as soon as possible. This is a great question! The scientific name for pseudomonas is Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and it is a bacteria that can infect multiple species including humans. That being said, in order for it to infect humans, there needs to be some sort of skin compromise, such as a skin allergy or other skin problem that can invite a pseudomonas infection. As long as you are not immunocompromised and wash your hands after each time you touch Bey Bey, including after each time you give her medication, you should be fine. If you are truly worried, you can wear disposable gloves while handling her and giving her medication, but that won't be necessary. I hope this helps!

I really cannot give you an answer on this. Did the vet have a sensitivity test performed on the bacteria to find out what the best antibiotic would be best to treat it? This is not a common bacteria we see here in the U.S. in cats. This is thought to be an opportunistic bacteria that only grows if there is a problem with the immune system. Has the cat been tested for feline leukemia or feline AIDS? I guess if he has been holding on for a year already he will probably heal up eventually with the correct treatment if he has no underlying immune deficiency.

If the wound on your knee is from a bite, then I would recommend seeking medical attention if it broke the skin into deeper tissues. Cat bites are notorious for getting severely infected even with proper treatment immediatey after the bite, so I would recommend contacting your doctor about antibiotics. If the puncture wound was a scratch, it can still get infected, but they are much less likely to be severe.
