My cat passed after trip. Had lesions, weight loss, vomit. Was she sick?

I'm so sorry you suddenly lost your cat! Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain what caused her to pass away, but I can make some guesses. In senior cats, cancer is common, and because our animals can't tell us what is going on with them, oftentimes we find that they are suffering from cancer but we don't know it until it's too late. It could be possible that your kitty had cancer, and it ultimately took her life. She could have also been suffering from kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, or other organ failure. I hope my guesses may give you some peace of mind, and again I'm sorry for your loss :-(

There are three very common diseases that cats get that can cause his symptoms: diabetes, kidney failure and hyperthyroidism. If left untreated, all can cause death. I doubt a virus has much to do with it but of course it is possible. As for the vitamins, if they were made for cats that is not likely the cause. If it was not cat vitamins then it is possible he was overdosed. Not all vitamins are safe in large doses. I am sorry this happened and that he passed. In the future please get your cat examined by a veterinarian before the disease has progressed to this point. When they start losing weight that should be a good indicator that something is wrong especially if they are not eating and lethargic as well. Best wishes.

First off, I'm sorry for the loss of Sox! How horrible for you and please accept my condolences for your loss. It sounds like he was sick for a while given the symptoms you have described, and he could have been suffering from a systemic illness, liver failure, kidney failure, or even cancer leading to his death. Unfortunately I cannot say for certain, but it is very sad that he passed away. I'm sure he knew he was loved by you, and you were doing the best you could for him. Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I am so very sorry for your loss. It sounds like your cat was very ill and really took a turn for the worse suddenly. It is really quite hard to say whether or not it was too late on this one. Cats are very stoic creatures and sometimes it is not easy to pick up on signs of illness or these signs may not be easily noticed. If it was FIP (feline infectious peritonitis), cats with this disease can become sick very quickly and typically will not make it past a week after diagnosis. The presence of a tumor can have vague signs but can end rapidly depending on what time of tumor so it can be hard to say for sure. It sounds like you did everything you could for him at the time. Sometimes things do worsen and progress rapidly despite all efforts. You certainly did the right thing to bring him into a veterinarian. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I can't image how surprising and upset that must have been for you. The best way to find out why you're little boy passed away would be an autopsy. Without an autopsy, my best guess would be heart disease. Cats get a heart disease called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, where the heart muscle is abnormally thick and doesn't pump blood effectively. Often and tragically the first symptom of this disease is sudden death. Little One could be grieving the loss of her brother - this is quite common. The surviving pet's routines and life are suddenly different and their playmate is gone, so they experience true loss. Depending on how recently your boy passed away, I might be concerned about a toxin making them both sick. If you know about any potential toxin exposure or if there is mouse bait in or around your home, Little One needs to go to the emergency vet right away. I would be most concerned about a toxin if it was within the last 12-24 hours that your boy passed away. Beyond that, it's unlikely that it's effecting her so much slowly. All in all, if she's really acting strange, not eating, sleeping too much, having any vomiting or diarrhea, it would be best to take her to the emergency clinic for an exam. If you still have your little boy's body, doing the autopsy could ease your mind as well. Please accept my condolences during this difficult time.

I am so sorry your cat died recently, please accept my condolences for your loss. The massive wounds may have been the cause of his death. He could have had internal injures you weren't aware of it, and that could have lead to him vomiting food and then blood. Unfortunately, without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain what caused his death. I recommend having a necropsy (an autopsy for animals) done on him, which may give you some answers as to what caused his death. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss :-(

Hello and I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your kitty. It is so heart breaking to lose them. Without an autopsy, one can't be certain, but most often in a cat without any other clinical signs, it's usually a bad heart that will cause sudden death. One of the most most common heart diseases in cats is called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. It often has no symptoms. It is often not detectable on a physical exam. Sometimes there will be fluid in the lungs from congestion in the lungs that can leak out after passing. I hope this helps to provide some closure and with time, I hope your heart heals.
