My cat hasn't eaten in 6 days and is throwing up bile. What's wrong?

Cats cannot go more than a few days without eating. They will start by doing a physical exam and will likely recommend lab work to see how her organs are functioning and the status of her red and white blood cells. They may also run a thyroid test to determine if it’s over-active. The vet may need to take radiographs of her abdomen to rule out a foreign object or other abnormalities. It's really difficult to know for sure without being able to examine her. Given that she hasn't eaten for two days and is lethargic and vomiting, I have to recommend that she be seen by a vet as soon as possible. This could indicate a severe disease, or toxin ingestion. Aw poor Simba! I'm sorry to hear he's sick! It would be a good idea to have him checked out by a veterinarian to ensure he does not have an intestinal obstruction, infection, or other cause of vomiting and decreased appetite. He may need injections to stop his vomitng and fluids to rehydrate him. I'm concerned that 4 days of not eating can cause serious illness in a cat so the sooner he sees a veterinarian the better. Poor Willie! Given that it appears she has vomited a foreign object (decorative balls from your bedspread) and the face she isn't eating, I would take her into a vet now. It's actually very serious when a cat doesn't eat, as they will develop a fatty liver when they go too long without eating. A fatty liver is fatal without treatment, so that needs to be avoided. She may need x-rays to determine if she has any more of those balls in her GI tract. Please take her into a vet now. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Shadow is a cutie. If he isn’t eating well for several days I strongly recommend a vet visit. Cats can stop eating whenever they don’t feel well which could be anything from a mild infection to a more serious disease. Since he has now started vomiting he may become dehydrated quickly. With your description I am concerned that Cookie is not interested in eating and is trying to vomit. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Cookie so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. As your cat has not been eating for a few days now as well as not drinking, this is an emergency. Cats can get liver disease from not eating for more than 2 days and not drinking will make them dehydrated and feel even worse and less inclined to drink and eat. Vomiting bile can be a sign of chronic or acute pancreatitis. There are some diseases that will have to be ruled out (can be done easily with a blood test), such as kidney disease and hyperthyroidism and dental problems. I think taking her to an emergency clinic is definitely warranted.
