My cat in heat just mated. What are my options for pregnancy?

Spaying is the ultimate contraceptive, but Melatonin implants can suppress fertility short term while slow release GnRH agonist implants containing deslorelin can be used for short & long term contraception in cats. Yes, she will because female cats ovulate just when they mate, so the chances of her getting pregnant when mating is close to 100%. The way to prevent pregnancy is to have her spayed, if not keep her indoors and spay any males that could come in contact with her. Male surgery is normally less invasive and cheaper and perhaps something to consider if kittens are newborns.In 6 weeks time you could have her neutered. She could also be neutered sooner if really necessary, but it is a bit more risky in terms of surgery for herself and for the kittens. Hope this helps !

If she was mature enough to come in to heat she should be fine. When the kittens are weaned at 6-8 weeks I would have her spayed though to prevent further pregnancies and to control the cat population. Good luck!

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Her belly and mammary glands do not look distended enough to be pregnant unless she is early pregnant (2-4 weeks). I think she might be in heat. I would try to keep her inside as it doesn't take cats very long to get the deed done! Cats are pregnant for 60 days, so if her belly and mammary glands continue to get larger then she is likely pregnant and you'd have kittens 4-6 weeks from now. Good luck!

I would give her a month or so to dry out. It does take time after kittens are weaned for the milk to stop coming, so finding milk still present isn't abnormal.
