Hi! My cat has recently started shedding but more than usual. I noticed he is actually losing fur in a specific area on his neck/chest with some sort of reaction!

Poor Aramis! If he has a food allergy, it would be best to feed him a prescription hypoallergenic diet such as Hills z/d or Purina HA - these diets are specially formulated so that they don't contain any proteins that could cause an allergic response.
It's also possible that he has some other problems contributing to his skin issues, such as environmental allergies, a bacterial or fungal skin infection, or skin mites (mange). Since I see that he's 9 years old, he could also have a systemic illness like hyperthyroidism, which often causes skin problems like this in cats. I would recommend taking him to the vet for an exam when you are able to - he/she can do some simple skin tests and blood work if needed to check for these problems and make sure that he is treated appropriately.
