My cat has large red bumps on her butt. What are they and what to do?

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. It is difficult to tell from the pictures, but it looks like the red area is raised which makes me worry that it is a mass. I would recommend having your veterinarian evaluate it. They will likely take a small sample of cells with a needle and evaluate it under the microscope to determine what it is and what to do about it. This would require an actual examination of the area to see what may be wrong so that therapy can be recommended. Hello! That bump looks a little swollen and red, and it could simply be a wound. I would clean the area with warm water and antiseptic soap, and keep an eye on it. If the swelling gets larger, Chiky starts having trouble passing feces, she starts scooting on her behind, licking the area a lot, and/or you see pus, then I would take her into the vet. In that case, I would be concerned that the wound may be infected, or it could be something else causing the swelling such as infected and impacted anal sacs or intestinal worms. Unfortunately, you can't share pictures in the forum, but you can share them in a consult. You can request a consult online with an expert, and they can take look at the picture for you. Based on your description of the Cu's bumps and the fact that he likes to roll around in dirt, it could be that he is suffering an allergic reaction due to contact with something in the environment. I recommend having him seen by a vet right away. The vet can give him an anti-histamine or a steroid to help control and stop the reaction.

Skin lesions like you are describing can have a variety of causes, including skin parasites (fleas or mites), an infection (bacterial or fungal), allergies, or another underlying medical issue. I would recommend he be evaluated by his regular veterinarian to determine the underlying cause for his skin lesions, so he could start any treatment (antibiotics, anti-itch medications, parasiticide) that he may need. In the meantime, I would clean the area will diluted betadine if possible and then keep it dry, and trim his nails back as much as possible to keep him from scratching at it. Good luck!
