Did I make the right decision to euthanize my cat with kidney disease?

Going through this is extremely difficult but know you did the right thing for Beca. They were absolutely correct that she was in a severe case of Kidney failure. Poor Sutry. It is never an easy decision to euthanize a loved one. From what you are telling me, it sounds like he was likely suffering from intestinal lymphoma which is a type of cancer they get in the intestines. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do for these cats. If he were my cat, I would have made the same decision. Please take comfort in knowing you made the right decision for Sutry and that he was lucky to have such an amazing family. Please know I am thinking of you all during this time.

Bone cancer is extremely painful. If it was in the pelvis and inhibiting her ability to defecate, this would be even more painful. If bone cancer occurs in a limb, that leg can be amputated. This will provide the patient a few more months to live (even this is not a cure). This would likely not have been an option for the pelvis. You relieved her pain and suffering by electing to euthanize her. I know what a heartbreaking choice this is, but you should bravery by putting her needs above your own. At 15 years old, it sounds like Rocky had a wonderful, long life with you. Without knowing his exact history, I'm afraid I won't be able to tell you a whole lot about what he might have experienced specifically, but what I can tell you is that chronic kidney failure is a debilitating, painful disease process that only gets worse with time. With 100% certainty, I can say that if Rocky was exhibiting the classic symptoms of kidney failure and not responding to the suggested treatment, you absolutely made the right decision to let him go. Euthanasia is, of course, and extremely personal and heart-wrenching decision to have to make, but it is, in all regards, the last great gift that we can give our beloved pets. Hello. I am so sorry about poor Nugget. This is quite a long list of very serious ailments & it sounds like his quality of life had deteriorated significantly. At 21 years of age, he had a remarkably long life, but there does come a time when you have to make the decision not to just let him linger, to end his suffering & give him the most gentle, kind & humane death as possible. I think this was definitely the time to do so. I am sure this was very hard for you to do, but there could be no meaningful recovery. Please find peace in your decision. Oh wow, I am so sorry. That is so hard. Don't feel guilty, based on his symptoms, I don't think Dustin would have survived surgery. Letting him go was the best option for him, the kindest thing for him. You let him pass without any further pain or suffering. I hope this helps.

A stroke, vestibular disease, aortic thrombus clot, and brain tumors are all possible. I know you did not make that decision lightly. At 15 1/2 if she had started to have strokes then she probably also had heart disease and possibly hypertension. IF she had recovered then it is very likely that she would continue to have events in the future. While the “what if’s” can never be answered I think that you should be confident that you made the decision that you felt was best for her and what she was going through. The decision is never easy.
