Why is my cat isolating herself and not moving much, but seems fine?

As with any sudden behavioral change, an exam to rule out any health issues is always the best first option. If the weather is changing rapidly and you are seeing her seek out warmer spots such as blankets, by heater vents, etc that could also be related to the behavior. Adding a warm blanket out of the dryer to her bed, or providing a place for her to sleep near a heater may help. However, if you are concerned enough about the change, a vet exam for a bit of peace of mind is always good.

If you took her to a vet and she appears healthy than it just might be her personality. Some cats prefer to hide from people and are not very social while other cats are very social and love to be around people. If she is eating well and maintaining a healthy weight than it might not be anything to worry about. If you are still concerned than you could take her back to the vet and have them run routine bloodwork looking for potential problems.

That's my isolate themselves if sick, anxious or stressed, or do to aggression or bad interactions with the other pets. If stress or inter-cat relationships are to cause having food and litter boxes in multiple rooms may help. Feliway pheromone diffusers can also help. If unsure it may be helpful to isolate her yourself in another room to see if dynamics change and also to check her eating, drinking and litter box habits of you are unsure if that is all normal. Cats may hide if scared or not feeling well. Try to determine is anything has changed around the house that may have spooked her. Any new people or pets, a move, or sudden change in schedule. If you can't think of anything then monitor health closely. Eating, drinking and litter box habits. Notice any vomiting or diarrhea. And if she is acting ill take her in for a vet visit.

Stress can cause cats to hide or act abnormally. For example if you had house guests or got a new pet this could stress your cat out. However medical issues can also cause cats to hide. Cats may hide if they are feeling bad. I would keep a very close eye on your cats appetite, water intake, BMs, and urine if your cat is hiding. If you notice anything that is not normal I would take your cat in for a thorough exam and some basic bloodwork. Older cats can be prone to things like diabetes, renal disease, and hyperthyriodism. These can be fairly well managed with meds once daignosed. If your cat is a male, keep a very close eye on the litter box and be sure he is urinating ok. Male cats can get thier urethra blocked and become unable to urinate. This is an emergency and can be fatal very quickly if left untreated. If it turns out to be just stress I reccomend trying a product called Feliway. Feliway mimcks the phermone produced by mother cats and has a calming effect on cats. Feliway should be available over the counter at your local vet. hope this helps

Poor girl! There could be something that has spooked her. Or she could be not feeling well. Or there could even be an internal conflict with another cat in the household. The first thing I would do is make sure she is healthy. I would see if your vet can look at her and make sure she isn’t painful, no infection, no fever, no urinary tract infection, etc. if she isn’t feeling well, this definitely can cause a change in behavior. If everything is normal then I would make sure she is getting along with everyone in the house. Make sure there are plenty of litter boxes as this is something they commonly will become territorial over. You can even put out some feliway diffusers which are pheromones they help calm down cats. Unfortunately these don’t work on everyone. You make also look into vetriscience composure treats as a natural calming supplement. I hope this helps!

Cats can unfortunately be fickle and change up where they sleep, but this can also be a sign of an illness. Given that you say this is extremely out of character for Fluffy, I would have her seen by a vet tomorrow for a health check. The vet can diagnose if she is suffering from an illness causing her change in behavior, and can discuss treatment options with you.
