My cat has a small head cut that's healing. Can I treat it at home?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

My brother cut my cats head with a knife he used to cut potatoes :/ he said he hit her with it kinda hard, and the cut is about half an inch and its already closed and looks as if its healing. It isnt bleeding and she isnt crying, and we cant afford to bring her to the vet :/ what should we do :(.

I would not do anything to it if it appears to be healing and she doesn't seem bothered by it. Just monitor it and if you notice anything abnormal with it: it opens up, has discharge coming from it, it is swollen, etc then you should get her to a vet as antibiotics may be needed to get it to heal. If you would like to post again with a photo of the cut we may be able to help you better.

Hope this helps. Best wishes.

If it is not healing and seems to be getting worse, then I would schedule and appointment to see a vet as it may need antibiotics to heal completely. Try to keep it clean with mild soap and water and make sure to not get any in her eyes due to its location until you can get her seen
