My cat has a small head cut that's healing. Can I treat it at home?

If she is eating, active, not limping and the wound isn’t deep and only superficial you can just watch her for any changes. Be sure she doesn’t excessively lick the wound. It is really difficult for us to help you with a question like this without a photo. My guess without having that is that the wound is healing fine and I would recommend you just leave it alone. Many wounds heal just fine without stitches. If you would like to post again with some photos we may be able to help you better. Best wishes.

Hi A pic helps in this cases so I always suggest to attach pics. But since there are none , in general , if the cut is already healing and showing no signs of infection such as redness, discharge, pain, swelling and the cat is not bothered by it , scratching etc you can monitor it is healing till its gone. If Any signs as the one mentioned above start take him to the vet. Also according to your question the scratchbis under the collar so it may ne a good idea to take off the collar just for a while to air the area . Hope this helps

Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and Boy will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!

It appears that the wound is healing properly. I think it unlikely that she will die from this superficial wound. Continue to clean it daily with warm water, and prevent licking since this will delay healing. You can use a topical ointment like Neosporin. If the area around the wound suddenly gets red, swollen, or it oozes a creamy discharge, then Tiger may need evaluation by a vet and a round of oral antibiotics.

I'm sorry you lost your job recently! If the cut on Princess isn't deep or long, and it has stopped bleeding, then there is not need to see a vet just yet. I would gently clean it with an antiseptic soap and warm water, and put an Ecollar on her to prevent her from licking it. You can get one from the vet's office, or a pet store. Monitor the cut, and if it starts looking red, swollen, warm to the touch, and/or is discharging pus, then it is infected and Princess will need to see the vet. I also wouldn't put any antibiotic ointment on it. Although quite safe on superficial wounds, cats groom and ingest most of the topical ointment you apply and therefore should be used only under direct veterinary supervision and if there are no other appropriate options. Many human ointments contain multiple other ingredients which are not necessarily safe to be swallowed.
