Why do most cats hate baths, and can they learn to like them?

Cats do not tend to like baths however there are always a small portion that don't mind. Some grooming salons specialize in cats as well as dogs but I tend to recommend to just use a waterless bath that you can purchase from a pet store. Since the cats hair is also long it is important to brush him on a regualr basis with a brush for cats to ensure he doesn't get matted

Hi, in general cats are very clean animals and they do take care of themselves so you should not bathe them. If you really wanted to bathe them you could get them used to it and bathe them once every 6 months. Hope this helps !

You should NEVER bath your cat, cats hate water and they are very clean creatures who do not need to be bath, you will rarely find a house cat that smells bad or that is dirty, when it occurs it is usually because of a medical condition.

Hello, I would not consider it abuse to bathe an animal, even though they may dislike it. If Strawberry is so stressed by being bathed that you feel the need to use excessive physical force to restrain her, I would recommend talking to your vet about getting her a prescription for anti-anxiety medication to give her prior to future baths. Gabapentin is a drug commonly used for stressful situations like this. If she is just sad about being bathed, then that is completely normal as cats typically dislike water. Like most pets, they will occasionally get dirty and need to be cleaned, so it is a necessary (though not fun) part of cat ownership. Using treats, like special canned food, tuna, catnip, or toys to reward her after baths may help her cope with stress as well. If she is more smelly than dirty, a foaming waterless bath spray may help to extend the time between full water baths. I hope this is helpful! There are cat and dog specific shampoos available at most pet stores, or on big box websites like Chewy or Amazon. While you certainly can bathe your kitty, I typically don't recommend this as a regular activity since the majority of cats do a great job of cleaning themselves. Unless your cat is getting herself into something that is causing her to be overly filthy, I would recommend letting her do the job herself to avoid yourself getting battle wounds. A one-time bath using a sensitive skin or gentle wash designed for people likely won't harm your cat, but it may still be a good idea to check any specific ingredients in it for toxicity. Well, it's highly unusually that cats will enjoy a bath. At 4 years old, he's now social mature and would be more comfortable telling you to go away if you're doing something offensive. It's possible he's never really love the bathes but is just now letting you know (like a child in their 20s is going to interact differently with their parents than a 5 year old). The other possibly is that he has pain somewhere that is causing him to suddenly dislike the baths. It can be tricky to find pain in cats, even in the vet clinic, because they are just generally grumpy to be there and don't always get MORE grumpy if we find the spot that hurts. Still, starting with a vet visit is probably the best idea. If his exam is normal, I'd recommend stopping bathing him, he doesn't need it and can clean himself and see if your normal bond returns. He may like being brushed instead, or just sitting next to you. In terms of breed, I would call him a domestic short hair (DSH for short). :) I hope that helps!
