My cat has a hard lump on her belly. Is it cancer? What should I do?

I'm sorry to hear about poor Izzy and your current dilemma. Unfortunately, it's not possible to know what the bump is without examining it and doing some testing. There are some clinics that can at-least do an exam for $30, but likely nothing more than this. For inexpensive veterinary care options, the best place to call is your local humane society. They should know the most affordable place to take Izzy. You may tell your dad that taking care of the lumps earlier, before they cause serious problems, is much cheaper than taking care of them later. You should also let him know that providing veterinary care for your pet is considered one of the five freedoms that any domestic animals should have. By not providing veterinary care for Izzy, an animal control officer can find him negligent and fine him. There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point. Hello. While I cannot promise you that the lump is not cancer, it is very HIGHLY UNLIKELY that the lump is cancerous. She is just too young. There are lymph nodes in the abdomen that can enlarge possibly due to a local infection, possibly even during a heat cycle. So, do not worry too much. Take care.

The lump you are describing on Jaffacake sounds as though it may be an umbilical hernia, which is a defect in the body wall that can allow fat (or intestines in severe cases) to protrude out. If this is an umbilical hernia, correction is a fairly simple surgical procedure that can easily be performed at the time of a spay surgery. However, if it is a mass or cystic lesion, it could be more involved to remove and biopsy. Jaffacake should see her vet for an exam so that the cause of her lump can be evaluated. Your vet will be able to give you a cost estimate for any surgical procedure, as this will vary based upon the size and type of lesion.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding XiaoMi. It appears that she has a skin infection on her abdomen. Mammary tumors grow out of the mammary gland under the skin. The exception is if the tumor becomes large enough, the overlying skin can ulcerate and rupture. This does not appear to be the case though from the attached pictures. I do think that she should see her veterinarian. She will likely need antibiotics and a medication to control any itching. She will likely have to wear an E-collar to prevent self trauma as well. If the cause of the infection (if that is what it is) can be determined, this can help to prevent future recurrences. Allergies are common ok the abdomen. I hope this information helps!

The vet can give her a full exam and then can take samples if the lump with a needle. These will be spread on slides and sent to the lab for analysis. They could also take some blood to check organ function.
