What causes hair loss between my cat's eye and ear? Is it ringworm?

It would be best to bring Cata into your vet to confirm the ringworm (they can look at it under a special light to confirm it) and get a medicated shampoo or oral medication to treat it with. As ringworm is contagious to other pets and people, it is best to keep Cata isolated from other pets and to thoroughly wash hands/change clothing after handling the affected area. Keeping Cata from scratching at it with the use of an Elizabethan (cone) collar can also help prevent the spread to the rest of her body.

However, hair loss around an eye in cats may be suspicious to fungal infection (ringworm) which typically occurs around the face. A veterinarian can diagnosis this with a fungal culture. This area doesn't look terribly suspicious of ringworm. It could have just been a scab that was there that fell off and took the hair with it. If you are really concerned though it is best to have your vet take a closer look at the area. THe hair needs to be parted and then the skin palpated to confirm if this was just a scab or if there is evidence on the skin of a possible infection (bacterial or fungal). There are a multiple things that can cause hairloss in cats including bacterial infections, fungal infections (ringworm), allergies, mites, and fleas. She should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treatment. Your vet may need to do some diagnostic tests to diagnose the problem.

Poor Bandit. IF bandit is an indoor/outdoor cat I would be concerned about parasites, allergies or even infection. If bandit is an indoor cat I think parasites and allergies are still likely causing the hair loss. I would recommend taking Bandit to a vet to make sure the hair loss is not secondary to a skin parasites and get better direction on proper treatment. I hope that helps

Yes, it could be. Animals don't get that distinct red ring from ringworm that people get. Ringworm is the number one skin problem in young cats so it is highly likely. I suggest you take him to a vet so you can get a proper diagnosis and then the appropriate treatment. Hair loss/pulling out hair can be caused by bacterial, parasitic or fungal infection (like ringworm), dietary or environmental allergies or sensitivities, immune system disorders, stress, or a combination of the above. If you can safely contain and transport the feral cat, I recommend making an appointment to have the affected puppies seen by your veterinarian to help determine the cause of the hair loss/ pulling as soon as you can. The vet will likely want to look at a sample from the area (taken by a procedure known as a skin scraping) and examined under the microscope to determine what kind(s) of infection may be present and to figure out what medication is appropriate for treatment.
