My cat has FHS. Is feline hyperesthesia syndrome permanent or curable?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 2 years and 9 months old | 8 lbs

In the previous question, I meant ''FHS'' as in ''feline hyperesthesia syndrome'' He had a stomach virus, got 2 injections, stomach problems stopped, but he now suffers from FHS, probably because of the stress. Does he have the disorder now permanently or is it curable? Sorry for the inconvenience.

There is so much that we don’t know about feline hyperesthesia syndrome. Some feel it maybe a form a seizure disorder. Some feel it can be triggered by a virus. Gabapentin is a pain medication that can also be helpful with seizure disorders and it is commonly used in these cases. Some patients seem to resolve in time on their own and others seem to deal with it life long. Unfortunately we still have more questions then we do answers about this process in veterinary medicine. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
