My cat has a fast-growing neck lump and won't eat. What should I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 2 months old | 9 lbs

My cat has a large soft but firm lump on his neck below his mouth on the left side. It seems to have appeared very fast. In a few days and is getting bigger. My cat who normally loves food barley eats and is always sleep and quiet which is also out of character. When he makes any sound his voice is deep and croaky. Is this serios? Is there any remedies to do at home as we don’t have easy access to a vet? Thank you

This suggests to me that Castiel has a dental problem causing this swelling and decrease of appetite such as a tooth root abscess. A decrease of appetite is extremely serious in a cat, as they will develop a fatty liver over time if they stop eating completely. A fatty liver is fatal without treatment, so that has to be avoided. Unfortunately there isn't a home remedy for a situation like this, he has to see a vet as soon as possible. I would take him into the closest vet. Best of luck.
