Why is my cat's eye swollen shut with raw skin and hair loss?

She is a cutie! This could be from an insect/spider bite that has cause a local infection/abscess which is why is has started to swell. This could potentially be a cancerous mass that has caused an inflammatory reaction as well. Since it has recently become swollen, I would strongly recommend for your vet to take a look at it. Your vet will be able to aspirate the mass or swelling if needed. They can even take X-rays if needed if they are concerned about sinus or honey involvement. They will also be able to start her on some antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory if needed. I hope this helps!

That looks like an infection with how red it is and the fur lose. Allergies and skin mites would be other potential causes though less common. There may not be much you can do at home. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for pets, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing her diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. Also protect the area from trauma by having your kitty wear an elizabethan collar at all times. It sounds like Dahlia could have an abscess, root tooth abscess, or some other infection or mass. She should be seen by her veterinarian to be evaluated and receive proper treatment. She may need antibiotics or other medications.

Poor Evie! That does looks quite sore and painful. It's hard to say what might have originally started this problem (possibly a puncture wound, or an insect bite or sting), but it appears to be very infected and inflamed now. This is definitely something that she should see a vet for, since she will need antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication to treat the infection and make her more comfortable. I would recommend taking her today, if at all possible - especially since the problem seems to be rapidly getting worse.

Poor Paisley! It could be she has a skin infection or she has mange. Skin scrapings of the area may be a good idea, or a course of antibiotics. I'd take her back into the vet in the morning. I hope this helps!

It appears that your kitty has a so-called cat bite abscess. You should take her temperature and if she has a temperature of over 103F she will need to be seen by your vet and the abscess needs to be drained properly. She will also need antibiotics, If she does not have a fever, the abscess is draining nicely (you can put gentle pressure on it and remove the discharge with a tissue) and does not refill, then it might heal by itself. However since this abscess is close to the eye I strongly recommend you taking Calypso to your vet tomorrow for an exam and treatment.

Hello. This is quite concerning. This may be some kind of autoimmune reaction or a severe intraocular infection. The eye really needs to be examined with the right equipment, either an ophthalmoscope or slit-lamp scope to see beyond the cornea into the deeper chambers of the eye. Coatie really needs to be seen, probably by a veterinary ophthalmologist, but you can start with your regular vet.
