Cat's ears bleeding, mite meds failed. Should I take her to the vet?

The ear mites need to be treated before surgery is performed on the hematoma. There are some ear mite treatments available at pet stores, but their quality isn't as good as prescription medications. I would recommend calling your local emergency clinic to see if they even carry ear mite medications - some don't carry them in stock.

In order to treat Belle properly, she does have to see a vet, and vets will see pets for sickness. This counts, as leaving it untreated can lead to hearing loss. It's probably earmites, they usually look like ground coffee or dried blood, very irritating for your cat, you should take her to the vet ASAP in order to get it treated, it is not life threatening though.

It is also possible that Mozart already has a bacterial or yeast ear infection as this can look similar to ear mites. I recommend taking Mozart to see a veterinarian so they can take a swab from his ear and determine the cause of the ear infection. In cats, ear infections can be caused by yeast, bacteria, or ear mites. You need to take her into the vet first thing in the morning. The vet can diagnose if she does have an ear infection, what's causing it, and can prescribe treatment for her. Best of luck.

Those ears are very red, which indicates that something is really irritating them. Ear mites could be a cause and can be easily treated for. Allergies is another common cause, but it's more likely to be related to the environment than it is food. Food allergies account from 5-15% of all allergies and require a proper elimination diet trial to diagnose the cause, so I wouldn't worry about switching around foods at this time. Bathing is a good idea, because it may remove the environmental allergin that is causing the problem. I would recommend bathing about once a week with cool water; using a shampoo and conditioner labeled for cats with oatmeal or aloe as ingredients. You can also get ear flush at the pet store. This will help treat/prevent ear infections and remove allergins. There are some good instructional videos on youtube that can show you how to properly do this. I recommend flushing once every other day for two weeks. However, this kitty needs some relief from the inflammation and it may be necessary for a trial treatment for ear mites. If the vet you went to before did not offer any sort of treatment options, then I would either ask for a follow-up visit or go to another vet for a second opinion.
