Why is my cat twitching its ear, shaking head, and growling in pain?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 7 years and 8 months old

I have a 7 year old cat, breed is unknown. We have been gone for about a week and when we got back he has been acting different. He is twitching his right ear then he will shake his head and growl. He will also do this when we looks to the right.

Sherlock needs to be examined by the veterinarian. It sounds like he is in pain. He could have an ear infection, something trapped in the ear by the ear drum or a bad tooth. Since he can't talk and tell you what is going on, I recommend to have him examined so that he can feel better quickly. I hope this helps.
