Cat ear infection with peeling skin: Should I treat it at home?

This is a very badly infected ear and will definitely require more intensive treatment. I highly recommend you have a veterinarian help you with this. The ear will need to be flushed regularly and covered to ensure that flies and other environmental elements don't continually irritate and infect the wound. I also worry about skin cancer causing such a bad wound, so it would be best to have a local equine vet check it out. If you can, just try to keep it clean by flushing with clean water and keeping it covered. If this is not possible, then the veterinarian will be able to help with restraint and cleaning. They may need to also prescribe other medication to control the infection.

Oh my. I can see that your pet has a severe infection here. You wil need to take your kitty to the vet to have this taken care of unfortunately. This is too severe to treat at home. Until you can get her seen its best to soak this area well with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water to help antisepitcally clean it. The vet ill need to get her on oral antibiotics or an injectable antibiotic that they can give that lasts for 2 weeks. She also will need to have this area shaved to remove the hair and possibly a topical prescribed by your vet. I do hope that your fur baby Crunchie is able to get this resolved soon! Hi, I am sorry to hear about Sparrow's ear. The inside of his ear looks clean as you have shown in the picture. The back/base of his ear unfortunately looks quite infected. It is great that you are keeping the Ecollar on to prevent him from scratching the ear. Sometimes topical treatment alone will not be able to heal this type of infection. The area looks very moist, either from infection or the ointment(s) that are being applied. Typically when cats have an infected area on their skin, we want the area dry and do not put on topical treatments. This wound would most likely heal very quickly with a visit to Sparrow's veterinarian. The doctor can clip and clean the wound with medical grade gentle cleansing solution and get Sparrow on antibiotics. The antibiotics (which needs a doctor prescription) is the main treatment to get this to heal. I cannot recommend any further over the counter treatments that would allow this to heal. I am sorry about that. I would recommend to keep him indoors only, keep the ecollar on, and hold off on the ointment so the area can dry up. The veterinary appointment can hopefully happen soon and Sparrow will be on his way to healing quickly. Best of luck.

Bite wounds are often worse under the surface of the skin than they appear externally. I'm glad to hear that Alfred does not appear to be forming a swollen abscess, but he probably should receive a course of antibiotics from his vet. You can try keeping the open wounds clean with an antiseptic soap (such as Betadine or Chlorhexidine), but avoid putting hydrogen peroxide on the wounds. Be sure to keep Alfred from scratching at the wound and put an e-collar on him if necessary. I hope that all goes well!

Antibiotics are required. This may be a viral or bacterial infection (or a mixed between the two) and, from your description of the signs, seems quite severe. Poxvirus may be present as well so I would recommend to handle Jet Blaze with care. Please post pictures of the lesions to receive more specific answers from us.
