Why is my 12-year-old cat drowsy, drinking lots, and acting odd?

This is very concerning and may not related to progressing kidney, thyroid disease or diabetes. An urgent vet check and urine and blood tests is recommended. Do not delay investigation as early treatment is required

Older cats can experience an over active thyroid that can make then walk around vocalizing and change their water intake. They can also experience high blood pressure and a form of dementia that can cause wandering with vocalization. With these symptoms and her age, I would take her for blood work and exam. They can evaluate her health and check her kidneys, thyroid and blood pressure and prescribe what medicine is needed.

This is a disease where the body makes too much thyroid hormone thereby increasing metabolism. I am sorry Teddy is not feeling well. I would recommend taking Teddy to a vet for a good physical exam and some basic blood work. With Teddy being a 7 year old cat it possible he is starting to have thyroid issues, kidney issues or even just arthritis. However with him being an outside cat we do always get concerned about parasites and toxin. A vet visit would be best to determine why Teddy is acting this way and provide proper treatment. hope that helps

I can imagine that you are worried, given such a sudden change; however don't lose hope. Make a vet appointment for Rusty ASAP. Bloodwork may very well reveal the problem - older cats can often get kidney disease, and the decline is often so slow we don't readily notice it. Other possibilities include pain from arthritis, anemia, heart disease, or even a hormonal disease like diabetes. All of the above can be treated in some way, but diagnosis is the first step.

I would take Danny into the vet in the morning for a health check. If he appears weaker than normal, then it can be due to an illness. I recommend a physical exam, geriatric blood panel, and urinalysis. I hope this helps!
