Why is my cat drinking more water and frequently using the litter box?

Pet's info: Cat | Turkish Van | Female | spayed | 6 years old | 7.05 lbs

My cat’s water intake has noticeably increased whereas her food intake has remained the same. She continuously keep visiting the litter box but there aren’t any blood stains in or around the litter box. She seems to be in some sort of discomfort though. Please help.

Increased water intake can have many causes- sometimes certain endocrine diseases such as diabetes or hyperthyroidism can cause excessive thirst. Other times, it can be due to kidney or liver disease. Another possibility may be a urinary tract infection. I would highly recommend Biscuit see her veterinarian as soon as possible. Your veterinarian may recommend blood work and running a urine test to help determine a cause. Once a diagnosis is made, Biscuit can receive the most appropriate treatments.

Poor Bob! The symptoms you describe could be caused by quite a few different things, so it's hard to say what might be wrong without being able to examine him and run some tests. Some possible causes would include diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or chronic kidney disease, which are all common problems in cats. I would recommend taking Bob to the vet for an exam as soon as you're able to. He/she can do blood work and a urinalysis to help diagnose the problem and see what kind of treatment is needed.

I recommend letting his veterinarian know of this change in behavior. He will likely need blood work and urine samples tested. Diabetes, kidney disease and thyroid disorders can all affect thirst. Possibilities to explain this finding include a urinary tract infection, urinary tract stones, inflammation of the urinary tract, among others. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Why is my cat always at the water bowl? Is it kidney disease?

If your cat is drinking excessive amounts of water then this can be a sign of kidney disease. We can often see early kidney disease with hyperthyroidism as well. I would recommend having some bloodwork done on your kitty if he hasn't had any in the last few months to check his kidney values. This is recommended every 6 months in a cat his age.

Why is my cat drinking lots of water and peeing on the carpet?

I recommend to have Jak examined by the veterinarian today. When cats suddenly start to urinate outside the box, it can indicate a medical conditions such as a urinary tract infection or kidney disease (other causes are possible). My cat drinks a lot and has trouble pooping. Should I see a vet?

Drinking a lot of water can be a sign of kidney problems or diabetes. Depending on your cat's age not using the litter box may be a sign of arthritis (most cats get arthritis by the age of 7) and squatting may hurt, so he would hold his bowel movement until he can't hold it any more and then does not make it into the litter box in time. I suggest you take him to your vet for a blood test and exam and assessment for pain medicine.
