My cat came home with damaged paws and a swollen rib. What's wrong?

Since he goes outside, he could also have an abscess/infection in his paw or he may have an injury. He should definitely be examined by a vet to determine the exact cause. He may need an antibiotic or an anti-inflammatory to treat. Your vet can also take an x-ray, if needed, to help diagnose. There isn't much you can do at home until we know the exact cause of the swelling. Hope he feels better soon.

It looks like your cat’s toenail has been sheared off, probably from an injury, fight or being hit by a car. My best recommendation is to take your car to the vet where they will be able to fully clean the area around the nail, trim the nails if necessary, and give your cat an antibiotic and pain medication if needed. Poor guy. It seems he likely injured the paw again. If it hurts this bad, then I worry about a fracture as well. I would recommend not touching the area and getting him to your local vet as soon as you can. If you cannot tonight, then taking him to any vet that is open tomorrow morning (after hours clincis likely are) would be the best thing to do for Pooh Bear. You may want to investigate the home to hopefully find out where he is likely getting his injuries from. If he is an outdoor/indoor cat, then its best to have him neutered and/or kept indoors to help avoid further injuries. Intact male cats tend to pick more fights when they are outside, than neutered ones. I hope that your furry friend gets his injury resolved soon! Best wishes and take care.

Poor Ronnie! Swelling of the paws is typically either caused by an abscess or a fracture. He probably has loss of hair due to excessive licking or dragging of the foot. He needs to be taken in to your local vet to have this area investigated. IF this is an abscess (infected pocked due to trauma), then he needs to have this area lanced first and then he needs a short course of antibiotics to resolve this. If he has a fracture then you have to discuss with your vet about splinting the foot and any further treatment recommendations based on the extent of the fracture. It's a little difficult to see the wound in your picture, but it looks like there might be some discharge on Prince's fur. If he is painful enough that he can't walk I'd be concerned that the wound could be infected or even that it affects the bone. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Prince's leg - they might recommend taking an x-ray or may recommend antibiotics. If there's a large wound they might even recommend surgical repair.

Hi Gabe! This sounds quite uncomfortable for Kate. Certainly a fracture is a possibility, but since you are seeing small punctures, a bite wound and abscess (infection) in the affected leg is also possible. At this point, Kate needs to be examined by a vet immediately to determine if an abscess or fracture are present so that the injury can be treated appropriately. Unfortunately, there are no home remedies for either of these situations. I hope that Kate is on the mend soon!

Ouch, poor Tiger. Rest him today as much as possible. No running, jumping, or playing. Keep him indoors if he's allowed outside. If he still appears painful the morning, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to cats and are be fatal if given.
