Why is my cat coughing, sneezing, and hoarse after endoscopy?

It depends on how long ago the surgery was. Typically a cough just after anesthesia can be associated with irritation to the trachea from the tracheal tube. Coughing several days after could be associated with aspiration pneumonia, or an upper respiratory virus. Also other causes such as heartworm disease, parasites, and asthma can also cause cough. If it has been going on for longer than 2-3 days after surgery or if he is acting sick at all then he should be seen by a veterinarian soon. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

These may be signs of a upper respiratory infection or tracheal irritation if she was intubated for her surgery. Either can cause inflammation in their throat and affect their sinuses. IF this pattern is still occurring, then i would have your vet rechecked. SHe is likely already on an antibiotics since she had an infection prior to the c section, but they can add medication to help with the sneezing and coughing/retching to help her comfort and recover.

It may be due to allergies or she may have developed an upper respiratory infection which can take up to 2 weeks to fully resolve. Hello. It is good that Echo is still eating & acting well. Most of these upper respiratory infections usually just need a week or so to run their course. I am not sure why your vet gave him a steroid injection for bad breath ( this was your cortisone ) unless he actually had lesions in his mouth. This might have exasperated his previous infection to continue into this. I would not recommend giving anymore cortisone while Echo is trying to recover from this infection. The sneezing in bothersome, but not really worrisome as long as he feels fine. See how he is come Monday, & at this point it might be appropriate to treat with either another round of antibiotics or an antiviral medication. If the coughing is a new thing that started after she came back from the cattery, there is a fair chance that she caught an infection while staying there. i would recommend taking Maggie to the vet tomorrow in order to get it checked, if it is an infection she will need a course of antibiotics in order to get back to good health.
