Cat coughing, drooling, lost voice. Is stomach inflammation the cause?

Coughing after eating is not normal and can have several medical causes such as an upper respiratory infection, feline asthma or bronchitis, or a heart condition. If he has swollen lymph nodes, there may be something infectious or inflammatory going on. I would recommend Susie see her veterinarian again for an exam to make sure there is nothing more serious at play. Your veterinarian may take chest x-rays to help with making a diagnosis. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Elvis! I wonder if Elvis is actually coughing. When cats are coughing they sound like they are going to bring up a hairball or vomit but don't or white foam comes up. Coughing in cats commonly indicates asthma. Check his breathing when he is at rest or asleep ideally. If he is breathing with belly effort or his respiratory rate is greater than 40/min he should go to a Vet immediately. I am worried about Elvis, if he is truly trying to vomit possible causes are: foreign body obstruction (requiring surgery to remove), pancreatitis, metabolic condition like kidney failure, viral or bacterial infections, intestinal disease (IBD or cancer). Since he is not eating and is lethargic I recommend taking Elivis to the vet for an exam, blood work and possibly X-rays. If you can video tape the attempting to vomit episodes it may be helpful for your Vet. I hope this helps and I wish Elvis a speedy recovery!

Cats can vomit for a number of reasons, including trying to vomit a hairball, eating something they shouldn't have, gastrointestinal obstruction, infection, inflammation, or even cancer. From the information you provided, my concern is that Mittens may have aspirated (taken fluid into the lungs) during one of these vomiting episodes, and is now coughing as a result. Aspiration pneumonia can be a scary thing in cats, and especially if Mittens is not acting himself or wanting to eat, I would recommend bringing him to your veterinarian to be examined. If your veterinarian determines that he has abnormal lung sounds, he/she may recommend blood work and chest x-rays to look for evidence of pneumonia. If present, they will likely start Mittens on some antibiotics. There are other possibilities for Mitten's cough including bronchitis or an upper airway infection, which should also be managed by a veterinarian. I hope this is helpful!

I am so sorry Boxer is having a problem. I don't see Boxer's age listed, and some possible causes are more likely in older cats; but I will answer as though we are answering for a cat of any age. (If Boxer is 8 months old, for example, I"m not terribly worried about cancer). If the blood and fluid is, indeed, coming from his airways, I would be concerned that he may have a severe allergic bronchitis or asthma, tracheal irritation resulting from an frequent heavy cough, or he may have pneumonia, lung cancer, or even heart failure. The other possibility is that the blood and drool may be coming directly from the mouth, and we are incidentally seeing it come out when he coughs. Take a peek in his mouth as much as he will let you (but don't risk getting bit!). Severe gingivitis, cancerous oral tumors, or a diseased tooth could all result in intermittent bleeding from the gums. Regardless, get Boxer in to see your vet so he can do an exam. X-rays of his chest will likely be recommended and will help your veterinarian determine the next steps in both diagnosis and in treatment. If heart disease is suspected, an echocardiogram (sonogram of the heart) and starting heart meds may be recommended. If asthma or allergic issues are suspected as the cause for the cough, a steroid may be recommended. Your vet will be able t help you decide the best path moving forward to see if Boxer can get some relief from this cough. I hope thats helpful for you! If Boo is coughing and having trouble breathing, he may have an upper respiratory infection or his symptoms may be caused by another medical condition such as feline asthma. Foul smelling saliva can be related to an oral infection such as a tooth infection or can be related to an upper respiratory infection. I would recommend Boo see his primary care veterinarian for an exam to help diagnose Boo's condition so he can receive the most appropriate treatment. Best wishes to you and Boo!

This sounds like your cat has an abscess, foreign body, naso-or oro-pharyngeal polyps, or ulcer or other type of purulent infection in her throat. She will need to be seen by a veterinarian who will need to thoroughly inspect her throat and upper airway, possibly under sedation and then remove the offending problem or lance an abscess. Please make an appointment for her tomorrow.

This sign could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection or possibly to a rhinitis (inflammatory, allergic, infective). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.
