My cat's skin is red after vet shave. Is it clipper burn? How to help?

She could have irritated skin and possibly a skin infection from the hair mat. You could clean the area with an antispetic wound cleaner and apply an OTC antibiotic cream and see if that helps. Otherwise, she should be examined by a vet for treatment. She may need an oral antibiotic and anti-inflammatory to treat.

I would talk to your veterinarian about giving him an injection to help stop the itch. He may also need an Elizabethan collar to stop him from licking. I would recommend not shaving him again. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Harley! Sometimes there can be a dermatitis or an infection under the mat of hair. You can clean the raw spot well with warm water and a mild soap, dry it well and then apply a topical triple antibiotic twice daily as long as she can't lick it off. It is never wrong to have Harley looked at by a Vet. She may need antibiotics, with out seeing her or a picture I couldn't say. But if you want to try the above first since she feels fine then I think that is ok. I hope this helps and I wish you and Harley the best!

Wash the wound with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep him from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!

Without seeing Forrest in person, I can't say for certain what these spots are, I can only speculate. When cats wake up from anesthesia, they are very disoriented, and can sometimes fall in the cage during recovery. During her recovery, it is possible that Forrest injured herself, causing these bald spots. From your description of them being red, it is possible they are infected and it is a good idea that she is seen by a vet. I would not put any neosporin or vaseline on them. Although quite safe on superficial wounds, cats groom and ingest most of the topical ointment you apply and therefore should be used only under direct veterinary supervision and if there are no other appropriate options. Many human ointments contain multiple other ingredients which are not necessarily safe to be swallowed.

It looks like Dakota either has irritation or a skin infection from the matts. I would make sure he is licking or scratching at he areas and if he does I would recommend finding a veterinarian to take him too.
