Why can't my cat walk after clear x-rays and losing appetite?

Sounds like Garth is still experiencing quite a bit of pain. While there may not be any clear fractures, other injuries involving soft tissue structures such as ligaments, tendons, and muscles can be equally painful. There are also injuries to nerves that can result in pretty severe pain. Lastly, dislocations can also occur (particularly in the hip) that are extremely painful. However, that should have showed up clearly on the x-ray assuming they shot all the way up to hip joint. I would continue to give him his medication as prescribed and make sure he is rested and confined. However, if matters are not any better by the time the prescribed course of meds is complete, he will need to be brought back in to the veterinarian for reassessment.

I do not see any bony abnormalities within the vertebrae of the lumbar region. The area of the pelvis is not properly aligned and the technique of the radiograph is a little burnt out, so I am not able to see the proper structures of the sacrum. Some types of spinal cord injuries are possible and can have completely normal x-rays. A proper neurologic exam will determine that. Some spinal cord injuries can heal with time and proper veterinary care.

However, on the right leg where the elbow is, it appears that there may be an increased density (bone sclerosis) of what we call the cortical bone. This may indicate early disease or something is beginning to affect the bone. I would recommend providing adequate rest for her for the next 4 weeks as well as give an anti-inflammatory to reduce any inflammation / pain she may be experiencing. I would recheck the x-rays in 4 weeks to see if there has been any change with the bone. I hope this helps! Hi and thanks for posting. Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear this. It is very hard to say exactly what is going on without examining Kitty first. Kitty may have endured some trauma to her bones or ligaments or perhaps internal organ damage. If she is laying down more frequently and had or is current experiencing trouble walking, she is likely in some pain/discomfort and my best advice would be to take her to see a veterinarian as soon as possible for an exam, x-rays and/or blood work to get a definitive diagnosis. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. From what I can tell from the x-rays the surgery looks successful. It appears they started with an intramedullary pin and then went to using a plate which is more stable. The antibiotic she is on can cause some inappetence so I suggest you try feeding her some other foods to entice her like canned tuna, boiled chicken, etc. and ALWAYS give the antibiotic after she has eaten at least a few bites of food. If her appetite does not improve then speak to the vet about maybe switching antibiotics. I am not exactly sure what else you want to know. IF the x-ray is clear then it must be a neurological issue. In a small puppy I would be worried about distemper or a problem with the spinal cord. I think more testing needs to be done. If you access to a veterinary specialist in neurology in your area I suggest you take him there. Your vet should be able to give you a reference.

It sounds like poor Nin Nin has been through a lot lately.! From your description, it appears to me that she is definitely in pain, which would cause her to be lethargic, cry when she is picked up, and trembling why laying down. I'm glad her x-rays were fine, but I can she how that would be frustrating for you to not have a definitive. Please know that without seeing her in person, I can't say this for certain, but I wouldn't be surprised if she did have a pulled muscle or maybe have torn one. That won't show up on x-rays, and would explain her symptoms. These can be very painful, and it can take weeks for it to heal. I would keep in touch with your vet about her level of pain, and if she doesn't appear to get any better over the next week or two, gets more painful, stops eating and drinking, and/or stops using her littler box, I would get her back into her vet asap.
