My cat bites for attention or when she's annoyed. How can I stop it?

This sounds like normal kitten behavior actually but I understand your concerns with the children. If the kitten doesn't have other kittens to play with , this type of behavior is often exhibited. I'd recommend stopping any attention as soon as Lizzie starts to exhibit any biting or pre-biting behavior (like rubbing against your hand). Immediately stand up and walk away if any aggressive play or biting occurs. Withdrawal of social contact with be a powerful learning tool for Lizzie. Also get plenty of new toys and rotate their use so Lizzie has appropriate things to play with and does not get bored. The best way to avoid this behavior is to discourage it by firmly saying no, and most importantly praise her when this behavior is not observed. For example, when she is begging you pet her, you firmly avoid doing it if you do not desire to do so. If there is any biting, you firmly say no. You then praise her when this behavior is not observed and pet her at those times. This is basically sending a message that you will pet her when you would like to do so. Consider using treats for rewarding her when a positive behavior is observed (such as not begging/biting). Good luck!

I think the most helpful thing for you at this point would be to consider investing in a consultation with a behaviorist. Sometimes this behavior can be related to boredom, anxiety or a desire to play roughly. There are a few things you can do which may help. Try enriching his environment. During the play time, if he seems like he wants to play rough, try to encourage him to wrestle with a stuffed animal. You may also try feeding him from a food puzzle and/or hiding food around the house for him to find. Most cats response best to combination therapy.
