Moving with a cat: When and how much Benadryl for car anxiety?

I recommend going to your vet for a travel tranquilizer made specifically for cats. Bendryl can sedate them, but occasionally cats will have an adverse reaction to it and vomit or be overly lethargic. I'd rather your cat be safe for his trip than potentially have a problem.

I recommend you speak to your vet, as Benadryl will not be very effective in this situation, but there are other medications your vet may recommend that may be. You will likely need a health certificate for Ollie to travel on the plane anyway, so you can discuss it when you take Ollie to your vet to get one. Make sure you follow the airline's regulations about travelling with a pet, including carrier size, timing of obtaining the health certificate with regards to your flight, food and water bowls, etc. If you are travelling internationally, make sure you are following all regulations for export of pets from the area you are departing from, and import requirements for wherever you are going/ anywhere you may have a stopover with Ollie. I sympathize with you. I just moved across the country with my 2 cats last year. There are a number of over the counter options, but none of them are as reliable as prescription medications. So, it really depends on how anxious your cats are as to which would be a better option for them. You could try calming treats such as Composure ( https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/vetri-science-composure-feline-bite-sized-chews ) for an herbal option. We used to recommend tranquilizers for traveling which would sedate an animal, but we now recommend milder anti-anxiety medications that do not cause excessive sedation. I used the prescription medication Gabapentin for my cats for a 3 day drive across the country, and they did great. Hi there, I always recommend trialing the sedation with a quick drive around the neighborhood before the big day to ensure that the kitty is calm enough. CBD is being studied for pets right now, but the hard data for recommending dosages isn't available yet. As well, many CBD advertised products will have enough THC to cause toxicity in pets, so I do caution to monitor closely and not give large amounts of a product you are unfamiliar with. I cannot think of a reason that a missing eye would interfere with mild sedation but I don't have the whole medical record either. Medications like Gabapentin or Trazodone would be more commonly prescribed for mild anxiety reducing and sedative purposes for a long drive. I hope this helps. Benadryl is generally quite safe for dogs so it's unlikely that this would cause any harm; however, it rarely does much to help with anxiety in my experience. A better option would be to talk to your veterinarian about prescription anti-anxiety medication such as alprazolam or trazodone - these medications are much more effective for anxious pets, and can be used as-needed for car rides or other situations that may cause stress :)

What I can recommend is that you try using Feliway spray and other natural calming medications like Zylkene first. Try it now before you are due to travel. Start giving the Zylkene twice daily. Then take a day where you want to test her. Spray the Flyway spray in the carrier and in the car, wait 15 minutes and then take her for a short drive. You can give ~12.5mg of dimenhydrinate as the cat dose. However, dramamine (same thing) is not a very good medication for sedation in cats. It works well for motion sickness. If you want an over the counter medication that generally works better as a sedative in cats, then try diphenhydramine (benadryl). Give 12.5mg (the children's dose, or 1/2 the adult dose). Benadryl tends to do a better job for sedation. Did your vet possibly say 30 MG, not ML? You're right, 30 ml is an entire ounce of liquid and I doubt that you'd get much in, as little as cats like getting medicine.
