Why is my cat going bald on her belly and biting her paws raw?

My first thought on seeing these pictures would be that Chicory has a flea allergy. However if she is on a very good flea control like you mentioned it could be an allergy to something else (like trees, grasses, pollens, dust or even her food). She is losing so much hair because she is over-grooming herself, probably because she is so itchy. The best approach to treating a cat with an allergy is to help stop the itch. This can usually be accomplished with a medication like a steroid or Atopica. Sometimes you will have to change the cat's diet as well. Hello! Cats commonly cope with anxiety by over-grooming themselves, usually in their belly region. I think you are exactly right that she has licked the fur off. In a fungal infection, I would expect to see redness of the skin, crusting, or discharge. The first thing I'd recommend for anxious kitties is a product called Feliway. It's a feline pheromone product that helps naturally calm cats. It can come in diffuser, spray, and collar forms. Cats also find great comfort in height. If she doesn't have many high places to perch around the house, that can be something that helps her interact more. There are also options of anxiolytic drugs, such as Prozac, that can help if you don't find success in the other options. I hope this helps! This is probably due to a severe allergy, although it could also be fleas, infection or mites.

First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment (advocate or advantage), then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation.

 If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy.

 Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollins, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair the skin lesions (steroids and antibiotics). If there is no medical reason such as fleas or food allergy and it is behavioral there is medication to help. She may notice another animal or cat outside that is new that is stressing her out and causing her to do this more, There may be a new neighbor with a dog that she smells passing by the door increasing her anxiety. You can start with feliway diffusers and sprays to help in side the apartment. You can also talk to your vet about anxiety medication to start her on to decrease this behavior.

This is an awful lot going on for your cat! As many of these things could be allergy related, or food related, or grooming related, or even immune-mediated related, I would highly recommend first scheduling a vet visit for an overall initial exam. Your vet can recommend a variety of things, such as changing to a more tolerated litter, trying out a food trial to check for food allergies or switching to a hairball remedy diet, checking for and treating parasites, and getting your cat on a prescription allergy medication to relieve initial symptoms until the cause is found.
