My cat ate a cooked chicken wishbone. Is it an emergency? What to do?

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about this situation. It's not recommended to induce vomiting because the bone could get caught in Furman's esophagus, and/or cause damage on the way up. You can only watch him to see if there are any problems from this ingestion. If you see any blood in his feces, he becomes anorexic, he start vomiting, there is blood in his vomit, he has diarrhea, and/or he becomes lethargic, you will need to take him into a vet immediately. It can take up to 72 hours for signs of an obstruction or perforation to appear, so watch him closely over this time. Best of luck, I hope this helps.

Hello, unless he chokes on these bones he is not going to die immediately. Fortunately, chicken bones are digested readily due to their hollow make up. However, there is a chance that they may become entrapped in the small intestines and may cause damage to these. Over the next day monitor her for any vomiting, belly pain, or diarrhea. This is unlikely to pass in a kitten sinsmall. He should be examined by an vet at an ER clinic to have an x ray done to see where it is and how large as surgery may be needed to remove it safely. If you notice any signs of vomiting or diarrhea or lethargy with no appetite then that is a sign there is a problem and things are getting worse

The biggest concern with the wing bones is that they can be quite sharp so there is a chance it could pierce the gut on the way through, and also the chance it could get stuck. If you could get her to a vet within 30mins of eating it they could try making her sick to bring it up, but there is potential to damage the oesophagus. Aside from that all you can really do is wait and keep a close eye for signs of an issue. Feed her plenty to keep bulk to her faeces. If you notice her getting dull or tender, not going to the toilet or not eating, get her straight to the vet.

This will of course take 24-48 hours to be determined. You can monitor her closely for clinical symptoms that could indicate an obstruction such as nausea (lip smacking, decreased appetite and/or drooling), vomiting, inappetence, lethargy and/or abdominal pain. If you see any of those clinical symptoms, have her evaluated by a veterinarian right away. Otherwise, if she is acting normal, it is ok to continue to monitor her for now. Hello, Fried chicken is not ideal for out pets due to the high fat content. The cooked chicken bones typically do not cause an obstruction but in some cases do. As far as the nuts go, I do not know of any nuts that have been reported to cause toxicity in cats. If Gizmo has not had any vomiting or diarrhea, I would not be alarmed. However, if he remains lethargic, vomits, develops diarrhea or does not eat in the next 24 hours, I would advise you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian.
