My cats are aggressive towards our puppy. Can they live in one room?

Yes, it will likely take time, considering the cat's routines have been shaken up by the new puppy! Expect a few weeks to even months before things return to "normal". That said, making sure your cats have a place where they can relax without the puppy present (high perches, closed off rooms, etc) and can get to their food, litter, etc without the puppy is best for helping them to settle in. Make sure yo reward your puppy (and cats) for calm behavior. If someone gets too worked up or excited, taking a break with everyone in separate rooms until calmed down, and then trying again after can help teach your puppy that they get to have fun when quiet and calm, but that fun stops when everyone is too excited. Hi, in terms of cat furniture don’t worry cats don’t need anything particularly fancy. They enjoy sitting on a shelf as in the picture and look outside the window. You would add some cardboard boxes that can also work as cratching posts and a couple of pillow on the bookshelf. I think the feeding area would better be moved, because being right in front of the windows is exposed, they can see/be seen and could spot something that might upset them. It is also advisable to keep feeding areas away from their litter tray and perhaps moving it would help increasing this distance. Are there only two cats in the room ? If so also consider the number of litter trays. I mo not sure how many you have at present, and if things work out well I probably would suggest not to change them. Changes in the social structure in a household like this can be very stressful for cats. They are not a very social species by nature, and it's often very hard for them to accept "newcomers" - even if these are her sister's kittens. I would recommend making sure that the aggressive cat has her own area where she can get away completely from the kittens and your other cat whenever she wants to - this should be a comfortable room with a litter box, food and water bowls, a cat tree or other resting spot, etc. This way, she can be on her own if she prefers to, but can still come out an interact with the other cat and her kittens if she chooses. Feliway diffusers in the areas where she spends most of her time may also help to reduce her stress. It may take her weeks, months, or even longer to adjust, so be patient - some cats never really adjust, unfortunately, and may need to be kept in separate areas of the house to keep everyone happy.

The best thing to do would be to keep them separate. We know that Bianca isn't trying to hurt the cats, but see it from your cats' perspective. This loud, big, rambunctious dog (scary!) is coming up to us, maybe it wants to eat us! We should protect ourself! Oh, no, it's getting worse! RUN! Cats are inherently wary of dogs. There have been cases of cats and dogs cohabitating peacefully and one day the dog fatally attacks a cat. Allowing the cats a safe, peaceful area of the house will help a lot with the tensions. They make baby gates that have a small door that a cat can pass through. You could put this gate across a room so that they have a space that they are always safe in.

Thanks for using PetCaoch! It’s not uncommon to hear about behavior like Alyssa. It can take a lot of time and patience for them to get along but here are some tips for decreasing stress for Alyssa in the short term. -Feliway- calming cat pheromone- comes in many forms from pet stores or online. 

 - Adding a litter box. Studies show that the ideal number of litter boxes for a home is #of cats +1 . This is regardless of how clean you keep his current litter box. 

- making sure she has plenty of “high space”. The safest (and therefore least anxiety-inducing) place for a cat is up. If you don’t already, get a cat tree or put up a shelf or two that she can go perch on. 
 Feeding them in separate rooms with two or three water bowls throughout the home is also a good idea as perceived competition for resources is a common problem in cats. Best of luck to you and your kitties!

I legally cannot recommend doing this without seeing Molly in person. I would separate the cats, and slowly reintroduce them to each other. Take the cat who is aggressive, and put her in her own room with her own food, water, and litter box. Keep the door closed, and for a few days, feed them both treats on other side of door so they associate each other's smell with a good experience. Then let the other cat in the aggressive cat's room while the aggressive cat is in a cat carrier. They can smell each other, but not be in contact. If either becomes upset or show signs of aggression, remove the second cat from the room, and try again later. Praise them when they interact appropriately. When they are interacting well with each other through the carrier, you can let the aggressive cat out of her room, and see how she interacts with the other cat. Praise them when they interact appropriately, and separate them with any sign of aggression or upset. I would get a cat tree with lots of shelves to give the cats vertical space to get away from each other. I would keep the cat in her room when you go out until they are comfortable with each other.
