This is likely an age related change and nothing to worry about. Some animals can develop white hair or whiskers prematurely at a younger age even. Regardless, it is typically something that is not concerning. Maintain her annual exam and get her blood tested each year as a preventive screening. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is not abnormal for pets hair coat color to change. Sometimes the pigment in the hair follicles (melanin) can change over time. As long as the coat still looks healthy and isn't falling out, I wouldn't be concerned. Kisses to Phoebe!

So cute!! If she doesn't seem to have any other health issues and her skin looks normal then it is probably just a normal pigment change. Monitor for hair loss, scratching and/or excessive licking and have her examined by a vet if you notice anything abnormal.

Ok, so with that update it sounds like these white spots are new. It could be a natural change that is happening. There aren't any particular disease that come to mind for hair turning white. If it continues, I would recommend a biopsy of the area to see if there are any changes in the skin that can be identified. I'd also make sure she's on a quality diet (meaning a reputable commercial diet or well balanced with supplements homecooked diet). I agree with your vet that it's not concerning, but can't tell you why it's happening.

If everything else looks normal in the area, its probably fine to monitor. Sometimes the hair cycle can sync up. As long as the whiskers are regrowing, this is normal. Not sure how old she is, but Orange tabby cats will be born without dark pigmentation around their eyes, nose, lips, and mouth but over time, they will start to develop dark spots of pigmentation. Why is my cat shedding whiskers? Is it normal or a health concern?

Cats normally shed whiskers just like they shed their other fur. So, it is normal to occasionally find whiskers, but it is a little weird to find 3 whiskers in 3 days. If there are areas in her whiskers that are appearing bare or thin or any other areas of hair loss, then I would recommend having your veterinarian examine her. If everything looks fine around her whiskers, then it might just be a fluke that you have found 3 whiskers so close together and you may not see any more for a while. Good luck! We can sometimes see color changes in haircoat in animals as they age, or as a result of inflammation or trauma to the skin. If there are no lesions (redness, crusts or scabs, raised bumps, etc.) and your kitty is not bothering at the area by licking/scratching at it, I would just continue to observe the site. I would check it weekly for changes. If he begins to lose hair, starts licking/scratching, the skin looks red or irritated or other spots appear, then a vet exam is recommended.

You have a lovely cat. Cão looks a little bit like Clarence the cross-eyed lion, which is very cute. Cão may have a condition called vitiligo where the melanocytes in the skin disappear and the hair that grows in is white. This is just a cosmetic issue and not a disease as such. There is also a possibility that the coloring of his fur is normal like this, that he lightens up with age. This would be some sort of smoky-color. Overall it is not something to worry about, on the contrary, it makes your cat look very interesting.
