What's the best food for my healthy young indoor cat, AAFCO standards?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 1 year and 9 months old

What brand and product do you recommend for indoor cats? Healthy and young...blue Buffalo seems like the right combination of nutrients, but they always seem to have problems . So I've switched to Wellness Brand. Confusing and want to use what's best. Thank you

It is best to use an AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) food. AAFCO does not regulate, test, approve or certify pet foods in any way. AAFCO establishes the nutritional standards for complete and balanced pet foods, and it is the pet food company's responsibility to formulate their products according to the appropriate AAFCO standard.

Blue Buffalo is not AAFCO and neither is Wellness. When you don't use a food that uses AAFCO standards then you don't know if the food is appropriately balanced. Pick a food that uses AAFCO standards. It will tell you on the bag.

My recommendation for indoor cats is Royal Canin Indoor Adult Cat.

Hope this helps. Best wishes!
