What's the best dust-free cat litter for allergies and two cats?

I would not use a litter that has an aroma on a cat who is sensitive. I am not sure if you are able to purchase this certain litter system but if you are able to the Breeze litter system is great. Some cats can definitely have issues with dusty litter, it can cause flare ups of asthma and may make your cat decide to go potty somewhere else. Though once it settles, it may not cause issues unless your cat is a very aggressive digger. I would recommend staying with the same brand of litter you used before, or you can look into non-clay litter options, like Feline Pine or Yesterday's News. If you do decide on a different type of litter, I would put it in a second litter box so that Chloe has the option to choose which type of litter she prefers.

I've never heard of this litter causing a burning smell before, but if it is strong enough to bother you or is affecting your cat, switching back to the other litter may be a good idea. You can also see if an air purifier in the room helps as well. If you notice any signs of respiratory distress in your cat such as sneezing, trouble breathing, panting, coughing, etc, then moving Sweetie to another well ventilated room and changing the litter is best.

You could try a corn or wheat based litter like World's Best Cat Litter or Swheat Scoop, or a wood litter like Okocat if you want to avoid clay litter. You could also try a clay based low dust litter like Dr. Elsey's. Even though she is used to pellets the transition to a clay litter could be fine - I'd start by putting out a litter box with the new litter while still keeping the old one and if she starts using the new one take the old one away.

Hello, sorry to hear about your kittens. Allergies in your cat can be managed with medications and environmental modifications. Do not use any aerosolized sprays, candles, or fragrances because this can exacerbate the coughing. Clean often to limit the amount of dust around the house. Sometimes you may have to use litter that clumps and has less sand in it. Dry food may need to be moistened with water so that the food dust does not cause irritation. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Melcho! If Melcho is that allergic and nothing else has changed it is possible. Though if most cats are allergic to the litter it is the dust causing asthma problems not necessarily skin. Be sure to check him well for fleas or a skin infection. I wouldn't let the skin get to far gone before having your Vet checked him out. Could you find the litter online if it is unavailable in the store? Could you call other pet stores to see if they carry it or ask the store to restock it? I wish Melcho the best!

Brushing more often (in an area that's easy to clean up any hair that flies away) can certainly help. Keeping carpets and furniture clean can also help reduce pet dander and allergens. If you do a search online, there are also special shampoo sprays that can be used on cats to help reduce excess dander without harm to your cat. Having an antihistamine on hand for your friend to use, and keeping bedding/cat towers/etc out of common areas your friend will frequent may also help.
