Why is my found wild pigeon vomiting and not digesting food?

Pet's info: Bird | Wild Bird | Male | 27 days old | 15 lbs

Hlo madam I have one pigeon I found it in front of my house it's been one month at that time it unable to fly now I'm taking care of it from two days on wards it's getting vomited food is not digesting what's the reason behind it and what happened to it and what precautions should I take

If you've found a wild bird, the best course of action is to try and find a wildlife rehab near you that can take the bird in, especially if it is ill. Seeing if there are any vets that see wild animals near you is also a good idea.

Since the bird is showing signs of illness, making sure to keep it separated from any other birds in a hospital cage, and washing hands and clothing coming into contact with it is best to prevent the spread of any illness. You can try to offer a mashed up baby bird food diet, however if it is unable to keep any food down, there could be an issue with the crop (infection, illness, obstruction) or GI tract that needs to be seen by a vet in person.

    Thanks for reaching out about Butuku. A gastrointestinal infection or obstruction (possible ingested foreign body?) are common causes. Heavy metal ingestions (lead, zinc) can lead to nausea and vomition. A veterinary visit is recommended to achieve a diagnosis and prescribe a treatment plan..

If this bird is regurgitating it is likely very sick, and there is not much you are going to be able to do for it. If you have a wildlife rescue facility available to take it to, that's what I would do. Good luck!

It appears that this pigeon is extremely ill. It is best to bring him to the vet you have in mind ASAP, or to a local wildlife rehab center that can see him as soon as possible and provide help. If you've already tried home treatment and he isn't improving, then seeking care ASAP is needed. Keeping him in a cage separate from other birds, with low perches and easy access to food and water may help, as well as keeping the area cool and dark to help avoid any undue stress until he can be seen by your vet.

You may go online to see if there is an Audubon society or a zoo that will accept wild birds for treatment. Try to keep it warm and in a safe location. Put trays of food and water nearby. It's possible you could be overfilling his crop, causing him to regurgitate up some of the extra food. Checking his crop (located on the neck, it will feel like a little balloon when full, or be visible if his feathers haven't grown in) can alert you if he's full or not. If it's full, waiting a bit to feed him again or decreasing the amount fed and just feeding more often can help. If his crop is always full, or he is unable to keep any food down, having a vet take a look to rule out issues such as obstruction or illness is best.
