Is it normal for a male budgie to sit on eggs and not leave nest?

Males can help sit on the eggs, or may offer food/support to the female so that she can still be fed and active. This is very normal behavior, and as long as both are taking care of themselves and the eggs and do not seem stressed out, I would not be worried. If the male is harassing the female to the point that she seems stressed, or can't get food or water, then separating the two for a time may be best.

Parakeets don't usually try to mate with things other than other parakeets, however if he is doing this behavior with you it is best to just put him back in the cage and let him go about his business until he has calmed down. You can still interact with him by offering treats or having him sit on a perch instead of your hand if the behavior continues. If they're both males (which is always possible) it may be they aren't interested in the nest. You can try adding some items to it to make it more interesting, or offer some nest building material (most pet stores will carry this) to see if it encourages nest building. Be sure not to place yarn or other strings as feet and beaks may get caught on that and cause injury.

I didn’t see if this was their first clutch together, but sometimes that can make a difference. I would recommend ensuring that there is a great deal of space for them to get away from each other, and lots of resources available. Thanks for reaching out. Sitting quietly, fluffed on the bottom of the cage is not an indication of laying again. It is more probably a sign of illness and should see a veterinarian. Wheezing and respiratory clicking sounds are an indication of a respiratory infection, necessitating the need for systemic antibiotics. The second budgie, loosing feathers, could be a stress molt, but several viral disease could also be the cause. See your veterinarian. Good luck.

It is not recommended to breed your budgie too soon after having a clutch because this can deplete her calcium reserves. Separating her from the male would be the best way to prevent further breeding. If she has already mated with the male, adding a calcium supplement to her food or water may help her to restore her calcium levels.

It would depend on if the eggs are fertilized or not. If you only have female budgies the eggs will not be fertilized and will not hatch. If you have a mating male with female I would recommend keeping the birds in a quiet location that is low stress. The female bird will care to the eggs and keep them warm. If you find she is leaving them in the open you. An put material in the cage so she can build a nest.
